I am totally certain that this has come up before, but it is a point of contention in our playgroup, a clarification please. > Rotschreck - Master Out-Of-Turn which reads... Play when a minion attempts to use aggravated damage against a vampire, whether successfully or not. Combat ends before damage is resolved. That vampire is put in torpor, tapped, with this card on it. During the vampire's next untap phase, burn this card instead of untapping the vampire. and the errata reads... > * Should be played as written - that is, played on the vampire whose opponent > in combat attempts to use aggravated damage against him. [RTR 19980623] > * Cannot be played in response to aggravated damage done from "environmental" > sources. [RTR 19961113] > * Cannot be played in response to an announcement of a strike (or other > effect) that is not effective at the current range. [RTR 19980928] > * Rotschreck is played when the attempt to use aggravated damage is announced. > If the attempt is in the form of a strike, Rotschreck is played during the > strike announcement phase (before any damage prevention can be played). It can > be played after the other strike is announced, however. [LSJ 19990217] SO...the conflicting interpretations of this card are (as I understand them) 1) offensive: Thus methusela A has vampire A who is in combat with vampire B controled by Methusela B. Vampire A uses a aggravated damage stike against vampire B. Methusela A plays Rotschreck and sends Vampire B to torpor with the Rotschreck card. 2) defensive: Thus methusela A has vampire A who is in combat with vampire B controled by Methusela B. Vampire A uses a aggravated damage stike against vampire B. Methusela B plays Rotschreck and sends Vampire A to torpor with the Rotschreck card. The accepted play at this time is 1)offensive, I however have a different interpretation as 2)defensive. I really don't care which it is as I do have a bunch of the card and could use it either way...but i'd really like an official ruling. Also, as a minor side note use of the card, may the card be played by a methusela who is not involved in the conflict? Thank you and sorry to be asking what i'm sure has been asked before, scott

Rotschreck: Play as written. # # That is, play on a vampire who is to receive aggravated damage from # his opponent in combat. so as per this it must be meant to be played offensively my mistake, guess i should add them to that tzimisce combat deck then...
