Don't know if anyone mentioned this during discussions about the
grouping rule (quick Google search came up empty), but it hoses the
Betrayer deck. Ah well, c'est la vie. Another wallpaper card...

IIRC, it was mentioned. But it only hoses one of the 2 types of
betrayer decks. The version (Noal's?) with Uriah Winter and Seeds of
Corruption still works.

It doesn't hose the Betrayer card itself.
But it does "hose" the "all-vampires-are-in-my-crypt" Betrayer deck.
That hose was noted in the Gangrel antitribu newsletter July 2002.

I've never heard of a Betrayer deck. Anyone kind enough to explain the concept
and why the Group 3 ruling messes with it?
Thanx.

Betrayer Deck uses a crypt that contains 1 copy of every vampire that
exists (plus additional copies of select vampires). It then uses
Recruitment to go into the crypt and search for a vampire controlled
by its prey. Then uses Betrayer on that vampire. Repeat.

Yep, that deck concept of mine (Winter of My Betrayal) was unaffected
by the grouping rule.
For those who are unaware of the concept, it was something I came up
with a few years ago and uses several of Uriah Winter, a few of Anson
and a few random Princes with Thaumaturgy.
The idea is to get your pool down to less than your prey, sending
Uriah Winter to your prey. You then use one of the vampires with
Thaumaturgy to slap a Seeds of Corruption to keep him in place by
disabling his special ability. (Note: Seeds of Corruption does not
concern itself with how advantageous or disadvatageous an ability is.)
With a Uriah Winter controlled by your prey and a Uriah Winter in your
uncontrolled region, use Anson & Parthenon to slap up to three
Betrayers in place each turn.
The reason that you want the other vampires to be Princes is that if
you don't get Anson in your draw, you can pass Rumors of Gehenna to
get the extra Master Phase action. It also helps give the deck access
to other offensive tactics. (i.e, Parity Shift & KRC)
Because of the fun that I had with Uriah Winter (Winter of My
Betrayal; Uriah Winter, Trojan Horse of the Giovanni; etc.) I really
wish that another vampire with the same ability would get created. It
would be interesting to see how he'd work out with some of the newer
vampires.

Wow, I hadn't heard of that one yet. What a wonderfully ingenious
combo! (I love weird, convoluted stuff like that, especially if it
works).
Do you think anything can be done with Parmenides, the 4-cap Assamite
with CEL qui and +1 strength? Your predator gets him for the turn
after you influence him out of your uncontrolled region. Not as good a
potential for forward motion, but who knows?

It did a fair job. It's not something that was terribly tournament
viable, but it was a lot of fun to play in casual games. Ask some of
the guys in Columbus about my Uriah Winter decks. Most of them have
seen a few different incarnations.

That depends. Am I the predator playing my "Raped, Raved, Razed" deck?
(Which seems to be the case every time I've seen him hit the table.)
If so, certainly. The predator slaps a Fortitude card on him and then
plays Rave, Force of Will & Daring the Dawn and it's bye, bye for the
nice, young Assamite. :-)

Single shot specials and effectss that only go upwind (target predator
or grand-predator) tend to be nearly impossible to make the lynch pin
of a deck concept.

I couldn't find much either, apart from alleviating the need for
Spirit Marionetting the poor sod, of course :).
Well, maybe some more fodder for nefarious tactics appears in this
newest set. I'm pretty curious already.
