To r.g.t-c.jyhad: As most of you have noticed, there's been an increase in the number of mild flames, severe flames, posts with profanity, content-less posts, off-topic posts, etc. on this group in the past few months. I'll still read all the messages, of course. That's part of the job. But it would be better both for me and for all of you, I think, if the forum returned to the mature (opposite of juvenile, that is) tone that it has enjoyed for most of its history. And remember, telling someone that he's stupid (or whatever) isn't likely to change his opinion. Calming and rationally pointing out the merits and flaws of his position may not work, either, but at least it has a possibility of working. [Insert quote from Ben Franklin here] Now back to the regulary scheduled newsgroup.... -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. >As most of you have noticed, there's been an increase in the number of >mild flames, severe flames, posts with profanity, content-less posts, >off-topic posts, etc. on this group in the past few months. Expanding on this, IMO, arguing about arguing - how someone makes their points rather than what points they are making - is off topic. >And remember, telling someone that he's stupid (or whatever) isn't >likely to change his opinion. Calming and rationally pointing out the >merits and flaws of his position may not work, either, but at least >it has a possibility of working. Also, IMO, it's not necessary to make a point more than three times in a thread. Even a third time is unnecessary except when the first time was misunderstood. People can either be convinced or not. If not, it's just many more posts that don't add content to the thread.
