The following question came up in a recent game... Is it legal to use 2nd Tradition to just to untap and not use the +2 intercept to attempt a block? For instance, use 2nd Tradition to untap, then play a reaction card... thanks, Gary Bateman

(You attempt to block, no you may attempt to block) and that you can't use reaction cards, is on the card too. If the acting minion get more than +2 stealth you can used reaction cards either. I.C.C. Have a nice night.

You could still boost your intercept some more if the acting vampire exceeded your +2 intercept with his stealth. (Or, if he exceeds your intercept with stealth, you wil still be untapped, and (since your have fulfilled your oblicgation to "attempt to block") you could then play deflection or what have you. -- L. No (not even under the original wording). It says that it is usuable to untap only if you attempt to block. ("usuable by a tapped <vampire> who untaps and attempts to block...") I wasn't aware of any restriction on reacting while an attempt to intercept is in progress. Hence even if your intercept attempt will succeed, you can play a card like Deflection. This attempt to block is either sucsessful, in which case combat ensues, or unsucsessful, in which case the vamp gets to play other reaction cards. Why does the block attempt resolve before other reaction cards can be played? Ummm...well it certainly seems like a logical way to handel it. I mean, you've sent your little minion to stop the big bad kindred trying to mess with your stuff. Either he gets there or he dosen't--he dosen't stop half way. Ok. It's true. I want to say that if you use 2 Tradition with an action +1 Stealth You must block it. [ quoted text not captured ]

No you can't, because either (1) the action is blocked by your attempt (and cannot be bounced), or (2) your block fails (due only to lack of intercept, since you cannot withdraw a block attempt). By the time you "untap and attempt to block" (card text on 2nd Tradition), the action will be blocked unless the acting minion plays a modifier that allows him to avoid the block (at which time you can react) [ quoted text not captured ]

Under the errata that one can't use intercept without some stealth to counter. 2nd Tradition can't become another Wake w/ Evenings Freshness. And I believe that most of this group discussed no partial use of 2nd Trad a while ago. But hey, I could be wrong. No, RTFC. 'This vampire [...] and attempts to block'. Not 'may block' or whatever. However, when the acting minion is able to raise it's stealth over your +2 intercept, you are untapped and have the chance to play (other) reaction cards -- //The Doctor. +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ | GCS -d+ H++>+++ s:++>+:+ g+ p2 !au a->+++ w++ v+(---) | | C+++>+ UHL++ P?>+ L+ !3 E N++ K- W(---) !M !V po+ | | Y t(+) 5>+ !j R+ G++@ tv+(++) b+>++ D+ B? e+ u+** | | h+* f? !r--- n---- !y+ | +-------------------------------------------------------------------+

Actually, the new V:TES card says nothing about blocking, but the rules team has given us errata stating that the reacting vampire must block. Gary S.

You are all tapped out. You wan't to block. Can you use 2nd tradition. If you do you'll be breaking the "can't increase stealth/intercept above what is needed" my opinion is that you should be able to since the +2 intercept is just a side/added effect.

The +2 intercept is a bonus, if you will. You just can't add more intercept till stealth goes over 2. Dan Keller --
