New Rules
As we have already made public, The Camarilla Edition introduces a hundred
(100) new vampires. Ninety (90) of these vampires are Camarilla, fifteen
(15) in each of the clans: Brujah, Malkavian, Nosferatu, Toreador, Tremere,
and Ventrue. This new influx of vampires, no matter how well balanced
individually, could give too much power to Camarilla deck builders by
increasing the selection of available vampires (making crypt selection more
like building customized vampires). To ensure on-going play balance (for
this set as well as future sets in which new vampires will appear), The
Camarilla Edition introduces a new attribute, a number, on each vampire for
grouping (shown just above the upper-left corner of the text area). Crypts
must be built using only vampires from a single group or using only vampires
from two consecutive groups. The group of a crypt card from previous sets
with no group number is determined as follows. Cards from the 1994 and 1995
base sets (vampires with no expansion symbol in the upper right corner of
the card) are Group 1, while cards from the expansions (Dark Sovereigns,
Ancient Hearts, Sabbat, Sabbat War, Final Nights, and Bloodlines) are Group
2. So all of the decks built with those cards remain legal.
Players might confuse this with the way the DCI retires old cards sets for
DCI Standard tournament play, (some other trading card games have done
something similar as well) but the difference here is that all groups (all
cards) are tournament legal - there is no phasing out of old cards, just
segregation of groups.

Possibly the best solution to a problem I had given too little thought to
beforehand. My congratulations, White Wolf, on a job well done!

Oh well there goes my <insert deck that needed 1 more of type X vamp>
deck. So that means that the Cam edition will be reprinting the basic
vamp discipline mix eg more of the same.
And the reason that I should buy new cards that will not work with my
old cards is?
Looks like type 2.

I don't really understand the meaning of your sentence, but there go lots of
possibilities ; far less, though, than all the new ones I'm sure will be
offered !!!
So that means that the Cam edition will be reprinting the basic

Yes. A good thing, ain't it ?
> And the reason that I should buy new cards that will not work with my

No reason at all. But all the library wards will still "work" (if not mix
well visually) with your old ones, all the vampires from DS+ will still
"work", and nothing in the world forces you to play any vampire from the Cam
set !!
But let's face it : these will probably be lots, lots more itneresting than
the ones we used to know. VTES vampires were good because there was a lot of
choice, but most of them sucked. A lot. Either too big or too small, often
badly thought (well, it was the beginning...).
So, before you find a reason to do anything : try it. At a tournament, a
demo, whatever. And the, decide for yourself if it's worth it or not, I'm
sure you are independant enough to do that (no irony intended).
> Looks like type 2.
Not yet. It will when there is a group 4, though, so let's hope there never
will.

I don't think so. Take a look at the new vampire in the preview. He
has serpentis... that's kind of odd for a Brujah, eh? And from what
I hear, there are several other interesting new developments for many
of the vampires (storyline vampires, new discipline mixes, new
specials, etc.)
> And the reason that I should buy new cards that will not work with my

The new cards WILL work with your old cards. They may look fairly
different, but they are still compatible (as far as I can tell). It
is only the VAMPIRES from the Camarilla Edition that have a limitation
(and it's not that huge of a limitiation - actually, it makes sense in
many ways). Only your crypt selection has been effected and only for
the new cards... right?
> Looks like type 2.
Not quite. It appears that you can still use:
1) ALL of the cards (old or new).
2) ALL your old decks.
3) And... most of the vampires can be mixed together.
The only mixes that you cannot use are the new Camarilla Edition
vampires and the Jyhad/VTES vampires. That's actually not too
limiting. You can combine the Camarilla Edition vampires with Sabbat,
Sabbat War, Final Nights, Dark Soverigns, etc., etc. That's still a
ton of options, right?
Am I right about this? Is it only the crypt that has been effected by
that odd little number "3" on the CE vampires? That doesn't seem so
bad. And it opens up some exciting possibilities for future
expansions...
Cheers,
Howard
PS The library cards may have been altered somewhat ("fixed"), but we
can still play them all... except maybe 'Return to Innocence' ;o)

Though I don't confuse this with the DCI thing, how is it going to be
implemented in VKEN tournaments? Checking the "back" of the card to
see if the proportion of Jyhad/VtES cards is one thing. But, are the
judges going to be allowed to check through the crypt to see if the
1/2 or 2/3 grouping is respected?
Not that *I* mind much, but others might.
Frederic.

Though I don't confuse this with the DCI thing, how is it going to be

I assume that, should anyone wish it, the head judge can be called to
deck check
a crypt. Certainly, that is how I would play it. However, it does lead
to the
other problem of what happens if play starts, and it occurs. (How would
the standard
penalties be applied).
Also, assuming there are some duplications in CE from Jyhad/VTES, would
you
be able to play the opposite number.
i.e.
If Anvil is in both sets, and identical in both, then could I play a
Jyhad
Anvil in a CE crypt, or a CE Anvil in a Jyhad/VTES crypt.
I would assume that it is fine, but the powers at be could cause a fuss.

I've heard rumors of other games that use a 4 card limit and have tournaments.
:-)
This rule could be policed in much the same fashion (and probably much easier,
to boot, logistically).
If anyone sees a problem with checking this rule that is somehow harder than
what other games do to check a 4CL, let me know, ASAP.
