Can studder-step be played when immortal grapple is in effect. Immortal grapple seems to state that the card only has to be a hand strike, not that it can't also be a dodge. am I right?

[ quoted text not captured ] Heh, there was a fairly lengthy discussion about this card a few months ago. It *is* a hand strike, it does meet the criteria for a hand strike, it is also a dodge. Thanks to errata it is not playable when only hand strikes or only dodges are allowed.

I just see the card identifying it's strike as a Dodge, but also delivering strength damage. Therefore, I see it only as a Special Dodge, but a Dodge none the less. I understand it was errata'ed by LSJ so it can not be used in an IG combat, but have not really understood the need. Thanks Michael Eichler Prince of Ramstein

From the FAQ ( I think it's in the rulebook somewhere too now ) "A "hand strike" is any non-ranged, non-weapon strike that deals damage based on the striking minion's strength, or any minion's non-ranged damage-dealing innate strike. " Stutter Step is not ranged, is not a weapon strike & deals damage based on the striking minion's strength. This qualifies it as a hand strike. > I just see the card identifying it's strike as a Dodge, but also > delivering strength damage. Therefore, I see it only as a Special > Dodge, but a Dodge none the less. I think that is the intention but because of IG's card text & the definition of a "hand strike" SS had to be errataed. > I understand it was errata'ed by LSJ so it can not be used in an IG > combat, but have not really understood the need. Very much a matter of semantics, some ppl reasonably interperet wording in different ways to others.

Therefore, I see it only as a Special > Dodge, but a Dodge none the less. There is nothing in the defition of a hand strike that precludes a dodge. 1) Is Stutter-Step non-ranged? Yes. 2) Is Stutter-Step a weapon-based strike? No. 3) Does Stutter-Step inflict damage based on the striking minion's strength? Yes. Therefore Stutter-Step is a hand strike and, barring errata to the contrary, would be playable under Immortal Grapple. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc.
