This happened last night and at the time i was SURE that what i was doing was OK. Now, however, i am sober, and a bit worried that i may have cheated. Gaspare Giovanni had just pulled off a burning wrath to stick Richter into torpor. Michael announced that Frederick the weak, his only other vampire, was going to rescue Richter as a +1 stealth action. So i announced that i would block with Marciana Giovanni - Investigator [my only other vampire], and i tapped her and burned one blood off her to give her the required +1 intercept. The question is, was this legal? i worry because of the difficulty of whether she CAN still block now that she has been tapped to give a non-sabbat vampire [in this case herself] the intercept.

I hope Frederick wasn't too weak to pound Manciana into torpor! ;-) AFAIR, this is not legal, once tapped for the intercept Marciana can't block (unless she wakes?). I remember this coming up before, maybe related to the Starshell Grenade Launcher instead, but the answer should be the same. Flux

[ quoted text not captured ] Not legal, correct. Tapped vampires cannot block (unless card text, e.g. Wake, says otherwise). -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. Links to revised rulebook, rulings, errata, and tournament rules: http://www.white-wolf.com/vtes/

Say Marciana wants to block an action that has +1 stealth. Does Marciana tap when her block attempt (currently failing) is announced? If not, can Marciana play her ability on herself? If so, does that cancel her block attempt? Cause it to fail? If so, can Marciana play Wake to attempt to block again? - Jason Bell

No. Announcing a block does not tap a vampire. (Though many players indicate it with a slight shift of the card.) >If not, can Marciana play her ability on herself? Yes. She is currently attempting a block and can receive the intercept. >If so, does that cancel her block attempt? Cause it to fail? She is then in a position whereby she can no longer continue her attempt to block; it stops it. >If so, can Marciana play Wake to attempt to block again? She could; intercept lasts for the duration of the action. -- James Coupe PGP Key: 0x5D623D5D And if it's all right, I'd kind've like to be your lover EBD690ECD7A1F 'Cause when you're with me I can't help but be B457CA213D7E6 So desperately, uncontrollably happy 68C3695D623D5D

Correct. The minion taps when the block succeeds [6.2.3] > >If not, can Marciana play her ability on herself? > > Yes. She is currently attempting a block and can receive the intercept. She can tap to give herself the ability, yes. But then, tapped, she cannot use the ability (unless she wakes or untaps). > >If so, does that cancel her block attempt? Ah, but Michael turned 13 on Friday, so i'm in the clear there. I hope > Frederick wasn't too weak to pound Manciana into torpor! ;-) Nah, i stopped him GOOOD. Then Sarah ousted Michael. So, if a blocking action of one of my minions fails for any reason, I may attempt to block with that minion later during that action (as long as it remains in my blocking phase)? Say my Garou attempts to block an action, but fails because he doesn't have enough intercept. I then try to block with Raven (with Atonement), who also fails because of superior Elder Impersonation. May my Garou attempt to block again (this time I plan to aid the attempt with KRCG)? - Jason Bell

Yes, so long as the minion's block attempt didn't fail because it was prohibited from blocking through card text. > Say my Garou attempts to block an action, but fails because > he doesn't have enough intercept. Yes. You could also do something similar with the Ravnos and Draba. Your Ravnos attempts to block an action that is at stealth, cannot block because of Elder Impersonation or Call of the Hungry Dead. Your Ravnos can now play Draba to reduce the stealth to zero and any minion not prohibited from blocking may attempt to block, even if their prior block attempt failed. See 6.2 of the online rulebook, here: http://www.white-wolf.com/vtes/rulebook/rulebook.html#sec6_2 "The target Methuselah may try to block the action with any of her ready untapped minions. If one attempt to block is unsuccessful, another attempt can be made." Carpe noctem. Yes, as given in 6.2.2.2 (pg.30). (IF "my blocking phase" is the time between the action is announced and the time you say "I don't block"). > Say my Garou attempts to block an action, but fails because > he doesn't have enough intercept.
