Hi everybody, First question: does taste of vitae work at long range? I was under the impression that a card explicitly has to say that it is ranged, or else it only works at close range. Am I right? Second: I've just deflected a bleed action and my predator goes to my prey to find himself blocked by one of my prey's minions. Combat starts, my predator plays form of mist. The action continues, but who is he bleeding, does the deflection still work? Third: How do sword of justice and immortal grapple combine? Does the minion with the sword get an extra strike? thanks again, janwillem.

Yes because the card I.G. says that only hand damage can play in this round and the Sword affect to the hand damage with a +1 hand damage as bonus, thus, the minion get the extra strike. ;) Corruptor Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

Card text states nothing to the contrary, nor do any of the rulings, as far as I can see. I would be perfectly happy to see Taste of Vitae played after a long range gun shot, for example. > > Third: How do sword of justice and immortal grapple combine? The extra strike comes from merely holding the weapon, not from striking with it, so Immortal Grapple cannot negate the additional strike it provides. -- James Coupe

(Entombment, Coma, etc., which do not specify range.) Taste isn't a strike card and doesn't specify any range that it "only" works at, so you can Taste of Vitae at long range. You have to pretty much picture Kain (from Legacy of Kain) casting Blood Shower to make it work, but still. :) -- Derek PEACE, n. ToV works at any range, since it doesn't restrict the range at which it can be used (and since it isn't a strike). Compare Pulled Fangs. The rules restrict strike cards to close range (unless the card says "ranged" or the strike does 'R' damage). [6.4.3.2] Non-strike combat cards are not restricted. > Second: I've just deflected a bleed action and my predator goes to my > prey to find himself blocked by one of my prey's minions. All Action Modifiers and Reaction cards are still in effect. > Third: How do sword of justice and immortal grapple combine? Does the > minion with the sword get an extra strike? Yes. Grapple just prevents the minion from using the weapon as his strike. He is free to use his weapons (and other equipment) for non-strike effects. -- LSJ (vte...@wizards.com) V:TES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast. The damage bonus is only if you strike with the Sword (a melee weapon), and is thus not allowed under an IG. The additional strike counts as any other additional strike source (like Blur), and is thus allowed... Regards, R. David Zopf Atom Weaver V:EKN Prince of Charlotte, NC

Out of curiousity, in light of this, why was it ruled that Blood to Water can only be used at close range? -davey!

Sorry for the confusion." [TOM 14-JUL-1996] Now I'm confused. Is Blood to Water usable at long range, too, or not? [ quoted text not captured ]

However, someone pointed out that that's not what rulings do, and that it should actually have been issued as an errata. The point is basically what an errata does (fixes a mistake) and what a ruling does (which isn't that). Essentially, a brief game of semantics. However, the end result is that Blood to Water is only usable at close range. -- James Coupe

The first bullet is currently listed as a "Clarification", which makes sense. The third is listed as "Errata", which is certainly called for. But the second "bullet", which I believe amounts to "Errata", is listed as a "Ruling". So if you looked at the fully errataed text to Blood to Water, you'd notice that it can't be played until range is determined. But you'd have to look at the ruling (which doesn't seem to have any arguable basis in terms of game rules to exist) in order to understand why it would make a difference. Fred
