Hello,
If the action to move the Ghoul Messenger is blocked, is there a window
to play Change of Target before the Messenger burns? I would say yes,
but really would like to confirm this. Thanks.
Relevant card texts:
Ghoul Messenger
Type: Retainer
Requires: laibon
Ghoul with 1 life. Requires a ready Laibon.
The vampire with this retainer may move it to another ready vampire as
a +1 stealth action. If the action is successful, the new employer
gains 1 blood from the blood bank, and the acting vampire untaps at the
end of the turn. If the action is blocked, cancel combat, burn the
Messenger, and do not tap the blocking minion.
Change of Target
Type: Action Modifier
Only usable when this acting minion is blocked (play before combat, if
any). Untap the acting minion, do not tap the blocking minion, and end
the current action (it is not successful). This minion cannot perform
the same action again this turn.

You could play it, I suppose, but the messenger still burns.

Messenger: "If the action is blocked, cancel combat, burn the Messenger
..."
CoT: "Only usable when this acting minion is blocked"
Obviously you can only play CoT after the action is blocked. So the
messenger burns.

So basically it is next to useless, unless you want to cycle a CoT.
However, here is a followup question (actually two of them):
A) Eze, The Demon Prince takes the action to move a Ghoul Messenger to
vampire X. Action is successfull, so vampire X gains a blood and Eze
untaps. Now vampire X moves the Messenger back to Eze. Action is
successfull and Eze gains a blood.
Can Eze now move the Messenger to another vampire again? I would say
no, since it is a the same action as before, granted by the same card.
B) Eze, The Demon Prince takes the action to move a Ghoul Messenger to
vampire A. Action is successfull, so vampire A gains a blood and Eze
untaps. Now vampire B, with a different Ghoul Messenger moves this
Messenger to Eze. Action is successfull and Eze gains a blood. Can Eze
now move this Messenger to another vampire? I would say yes, since this
is an action granted by another copy of the same card.
Thanks for replies and sorry if it seems dumb to you...
Card text:
Eze, The Demon Prince
Laibon magaji: Eze gets 1 additional vote. Once each turn when Eze
successfully performs a non-hunt action, he untaps after resolving that
action.

Correct.

Correct.

Not useless, since you get to untap.

CoT is only usable when this acting minion is blocked, which assumes
that the block is successful. Ghoul Messenger only looks to see if the
action is blocked, gets the green light and then throws itself on the
nearest pyre.
Now, with Tangle Atropos' Hand, which triggers with but the mere attempt
to block, not an actual successful block, you can save your Ghoul
Messenger. Save your Ghoul Messenger from immolation. Use this
information as you see fit. :)
