Limited Ally Life?

Here's a question which came up when discussing possible deck designs last week -- is there a limit on how much life an Ally may have? Methods of giving extra lives to Allies are rare, but is sometimes possible (Nephandus, Shadow Court Satyr, etc) -- can an Ally hold more Lives than their card indicates? Fish.
