Hello, I am wondering what happens if I play Target Retainer (targetting the retainer) on a Catatonic Fear / Oubliette / Riposte. Will it be the retainer or the minion that burns 1 blood / life after combat ? If I play Target Retainer with Unholy Penance, will the card go to the retainer ? If so, can it be removed ? I suppose Target Retainer cannot be played with that S:CE : - Blissful Agony (retainers can't enter combat) What happens if I Target Retainer with those S:CEs: - Bound with the Mountain inf / Meld with the Land inf : untaps the retainer ? - Flash Grenade : will it tap the retainer ? - Mercy for the Weak : will it give the retainer 1 life ? The answer could be "S:CEs are not targetting the opposing minion, so you cannot change the target". And then, Target Retainer could not be played on S:CEs.

Sure. > If I play Target Retainer with Unholy Penance, will the card go to the > retainer ? Sure. > If so, can it be removed ? No. But it also has no effect when on a retainer. > I suppose Target Retainer cannot be played with [this] S:CE : > - Blissful Agony (retainers can't enter combat) Correct, by the "no attempting what you cannot do" rule. Similarly, Coma cannot target a retainer. > What happens if I Target Retainer with [these] S:CEs: > - Bound with the Mountain inf / Meld with the Land inf : untaps the > retainer ? > - Flash Grenade : will it tap the retainer ? > - Mercy for the Weak : will it give the retainer 1 life ? Sure. Most retainers do not care if they are tapped or untapped. MftW can be used to target the retainer if the striking vampire has more blood than the opposing vampire. In other news: Argent Baton is a little more self-restrictive in its "burn 4 life" text, though, so that effect cannot be directed at a retainer. Also, Blood Rage, Blood Fury, Bonecraft, Creeping Infection, Dagon's Call, etc. can target a retainer, but will have little effect other than the damage.

Um, that particular question was phrased as an "A or B" question. I am assuming you read it as "Will it be the retainer that burns 1 blood / life..."? -- salem (replace 'hotmail' with 'gmail' to email) "In *my* Assamite deck, this would pwn you in teh FAEC, so shut up." The rest of the post should suffice to clarify, but yes.

[ quoted text not captured ] If I Blood Rage on an Ghoul Retainer using a weapon is the weapon's damage nullified?

LSJ

[ quoted text not captured ] No. The Ghoul doesn't strike (card text on Ghoul Retainer).
