According to current interpretation, the (D) symbol is simply reminder text that the action is considered a "directed action" when it targets another methuselah. But it is purely a reminder. It's presence (or lack thereof) does not determine whether or not an action is directed. An action is "directed" if it meets the definition of "directed action" provided above (even if they forgot to put the (D) symbol on the card). If it does not meet that definition, it is "non-directed" even if a (D) symbol is present. Thus, when you burn your own location with the superior version of "Rampage", then this is a non-directed action because it does not meet the definition of "directed action", regardless of the presence of the (D) symbol on the card. > Is it the word "any" in the CM card text that allows the direction at > oneself? The Jyhad card text is: Yes. The current position is that the (D) symbol is not intended to determine who may or may not be targetted. Other card text should make that clear, as it does in this case. But if you target yoursel, the action is not directed. BTW, "a vampire" and "any vampire" are generally taken to mean the exact same thing in terms of determining who can be targetted, so I don't think there is any practical difference between Jyhad and V:tES card texts.
