*** Disclaimer: Before anyone posts any replies discussing it: 1. I know that Jyhad/VTES the CCG is different from the World of Darkness RPG's and 2. I know that some things are done to make them simply and easier to understand. >With Final Nights, we've started referring to some allies and retainers by >type. First of all let me aplaud you and White Wolf for this! I think this is a great way to bring structure and organize the cards that are already out as well as to provide a springboard for future ideas. And it also helps add more elements of the World of Darkness to the flavor of the game by fleshing out the cards more. A few questions though: #1. Is "type" an official term or is it more of a slang/conceptual idea? #2. Can an ally/retainer have more than one type? (From the classification of Hell Hound, who IMHO should be both a "Ghoul" and "Animal," since it's a ghouled dog, I'm guessing no). But I'd still like an official ruling. While I'm not going to argue how techincally (taxonomically) all these "mortals" are actually "animals" (kingdom phylum class order family genus species), the World of Darkness has always seemed to emphasize that all the Mages are mortals. #3. Are there sub-types? In particular, I'm thinking about the Bane Mummies. There are 5 Mummies right now and 4 of them are "Bane Mummies." But exactly what is a "Bane Mummy?" A sub-type? Some comments: With the classification for Mummies, Werewolves, Mages, Wraiths, and Changelings, I am a bit disappointed that there is no "Hunters" category (for the Imbued). I'm no fan of Hunter: The Reckoning myself (it's a Buffy-wannabe twinkfest IMO) but I think it would be more consistent to include them. Of course it might confuse people since not all hunters are Hunters (Imbued) but I got the impression that at the very least, Wendell Delburton is one (the regen ability really makes him seem supernatural). BTW: Is there any canonical info on Wendell? >Mage - Talaq the Immortal (ally) Is Talaq (in the RPG) really a Mage? I heard something weird about him being an ex-Assamite or something... >Mortal - Political Ally (ally) >Mortal - Political Antagonist (ally) Shouldn't snakes be classified under "Animal?" Or maybe a new category called "Amorph" to define the spineless slimes they are! =) >* Camarilla Vitae Slave (retainer) Cammie lackey? Cam thrall? >* Homunculus (retainer) Magical construct? So once again, well done LSJ and friends! =) Halcyan 2

Some equipment are both "guns" and "weapons", so multi-typing is certainly possible. None of the current allies/retainers are multi-typed, however. >#3. Are there sub-types? Is there any reference to them and Gangrel/Protean anywhere? "Soul of the Homunculi" is a 4th level Tremere ritual. (I'm not the gangrel expert so just point me in the right direction) Aaron

>===== Original Message From "The Nosferatu Stuff" <roans...@yahoo.com> ===== [ quoted text not captured ] It's a 7th level Protean ability. By pulling some flesh from the back of her mouth, the vampire may summon a three-inch-tall copy of herself, which has a personality that is a warped version of her own. This creature lacks disciplines, will die if it runs out of blood or suffers two levels of aggravated wounds, burns one blood point per hour, and may hold three blood points at a time. The reference cited is (VC41), whatever that is. [ quoted text not captured ]

Will wonders never cease. Who sits around and invents this crap? "Then the vampire pulls out his eyes...yeah, and he...Then he plugs staplers into the sockets of his face and he can control office equipment!" "Cool, lets make that 8th level Dominate!" "no way, it's serpentis, totally serpentis...call it 'Occupational Barbarism'" 3 inch copy of yourself...from the back of your throat....sheesh. Aaron PS thanks for the info though, I would have never figured out how that happened. Picture makes mucho sense now also.

>>>Mage - Talaq the Immortal (ally) >> >>Is Talaq (in the RPG) really a Mage? I heard something weird about him being > >an >>ex-Assamite or something... > >If you have a source, pass it along. Thanks. I don't have a source myself, but I remember a while ago on this newsgroup we were discussing the backgrounds of various cards and someone mentioned how Talaq was originally an Assamite and somehow became mortal or something. It's quite possible that whoever said it was wrong though. I'll have to search the archives sometime. >>>* Homunculus (retainer) >> >>Magical construct? > >It isn't magical (it's protean). As Aaron pointed out, Homonculi are supposed to be created in a special ritual. I know for certain they're discussed in the "minions" section in the original Tremere Clanbook (along with Corpse Minions) and I'm pretty sure they're discussed briefly in the new Clanbook (there's supposed some discrepancy in the level for the ritual in the two books or something). It's just that "Homonculus" is *supposed* to be a thaumaturgical magic thingy. Just like "Wake with Evening's Freshness" is *supposed* to be a thaumaturgical ritual. And "Eternal Vigilance" is *supposed* to be a high-level Fortitude power. But then again, what is ever the way it's *supposed* to be? =) Halcyan 2

I believe you'll find Talaq in the original 'World of Darkness' supplement... it's quite old, circa the original 'Chicago by Night'. Cheers, WES

Talaq was sired Assamite, then made into a non-vampiric immortal with access to all of his disciplines. I'm pretty certain that it was Mages what done it to 'im though, although he never became a Mage per se, he was rather unique and so uncategorisable. According to CBRev: Assamite, Ur-shulgi killed him, or orchestrated his death.
