Blood to Water says play "before strike resolution". I interpreted this as being between strike declaratino and strike resolution. I have seen it played before strike declaration and been assured that this is also legal (ie. the player can choose). Can you play BtW before strikes are chosen (thus preventing your opponent from playing a strike that he would have needed that blood to pay for)?

[ quoted text not captured ] Yes. It can be played anytime before strike resolution. So also immediately after the round starts, so even before the Beofre rangge is determined cards if you like.

LSJ

[ quoted text not captured ] It can be played any time after range is determined and before strikes resolve, and only if the range is close. It cannot be played before range is determined (that is, it can only be played if range is set to close). -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. Just to clear this up before it happens. Can I play a Blood to Water after strike declaration, even if it causes my opponent's strike to fizzle (i.e. not being able to pay the one blood for Majesty)? -- Comments Welcome, Norman S. No, because you pay for strikes when you announce them. LSJ 05/07/2002 http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=3CD7C5C3.34F0228C%40white-wolf.com Carpe noctem. Lasombra http://www.TheLasombra.com

Timlagor expounded: [ quoted text not captured ] Durr. I'm going to have to start reading things three times :-/ You can play it but as Lasombra says that blood will already have gone. OTOH if they have more than 5 blood (and you only have one BtW) you might want to wait for them to play their strike so you can BtW them down to 0 where tehy might not otherwise have played the expensive strike... or something... anyone ever wanted to do this? -perhaps you are planning to combine it with that other power-card: Wind Dance ;-D

You can play it after strike declaration. However, this won't cause a foe's strike to fizzle - strike cards (like every card in the game except for action cards) must be paid for as they are played, not when they resolve. (Action cards get paid for only when the action is successfully resolved, as specified by the rules). So if your opponent has a blood and declares Majesty as his strike, he pays that immediately, leaving him with zero blood should you choose to play Blood to Water after strike declaration. (Similarly, if you play a Pushing the Limit as your strike, and your opponent plays Majesty, you still have already paid for the PtL even though combat will end from Majesty before your strike resolves.) -John Flournoy
