I just bought Duelist #7 and have a handful of questions regarding playing VTES with Jyhad cards: 1 Can I use cards that do not appear in VTES, but do appear in Jyhad? ie, Rowan Ring, Monolce of Clarity, etc. 2 What is the ruling for Jyhad cards that have been altered in VTES? example: if I give one of my vampires a Jyhad hawg, do they get one optional press per combat (as per VTES card) or one press per turn (as per Jyhad card)? 3 What's the deal with Dr. Jest? Is he considered unique, or can I control the Jyhad Dr. Jest while an opponent controls the VTES Dr. Jest? 4 And a miscellaneous question: are there any "official" card limits for VTES, or can I play my political deck with 8 kine resources contested and 19 majesty? (My friend plays Toreador/Brujah with 12 nimble feet and 8 blur.) Thanks in advance. Andrew Steuter (amst...@science.watstar.uwaterloo.ca) "I've bleed all I can, I won't bleed no more." If you've got the Paralyze cards, then you've got a copy of the Paralyze rules, so you could certainly use them if you wan them. > 2 What is the ruling for Jyhad cards that have been altered in > VTES? example: if I give one of my vampires a Jyhad hawg, do > they get one optional press per combat (as per VTES card) or > one press per turn (as per Jyhad card)? Good question :) We'll probobly use the newer wordings, as many of them are simply the errata fixes we've had on paper for a while now. > 3 What's the deal with Dr. Jest? There's still only one Dr. Jest, regardless of what his card looks like. > 4 And a miscellaneous question: are there any "official" card > limits for VTES, or can I play my political deck with 8 kine > resources contested and 19 majesty? Everyone in this newsgroup, at least, thinks they're a bunch of loonies. Most all of VTES's cards are balanced enought to render card limits useless, even damaging to the game. However, some cards need fixed to prevent abuses : 1) Things that untap vampires (ala majesty). A possible fix : make untapping cards cost one extra blood. Another - say that a vampire can only do one of a type of action (bleed, vote, etc) per turn, even if he manages to untap. 2) Votes (ala Kine Resources Contested). Two suggested fixes for this : only let OTHER methusalah's play political action cards for votes; or only let each methuslah play one such card per voting action. It all boils down to what your group wants to play with. I think that the above suggestions make for a great game, but try them out to see for yourself. Well, tournament rules ban the paralyze cards, but in general you're free to use cards that have been rotated out. > 2 What is the ruling for Jyhad cards that have been altered in > VTES? example: if I give one of my vampires a Jyhad hawg, do > they get one optional press per combat (as per VTES card) or > one press per turn (as per Jyhad card)? As far as I'm aware, the same policy exists here as for Magic: While we think that cards should be played by the most recent wording, and recommend that players do so, we don't have an entirely reliable way of informing people of those wordings, so can't officially rule that they should be played that way. > 3 What's the deal with Dr. Jest? Dr. Jest is unique, like every other vampire. > 4 And a miscellaneous question: are there any "official" card > limits for VTES, or can I play my political deck with 8 kine > resources contested and 19 majesty? (My friend plays > Toreador/Brujah with 12 nimble feet and 8 blur.) In general, there are no per-card limit, even officially. However, the tournament rules do have a restricted list, which currently limits the cards to 2 each per deck, though this will probably be changed to 5 or 6 each.
