Best way to learn how to play?

I've played Magic: The Gathering casually with a few friends since 3rd Edition was out. The other day, we found a sealed starter box of Jyhad cards at at garage sale for $3, and bought it without hesitation. We've read through the rulebook a few times, and grasp the basics of the game. I think. My question is this -- is there an online tutorial or software application designed to ease new players into the game? We don't know *anyone* that plays, and can assume that one starter box will be able to build two or three fairly decent decks. Thanks for any help/ideas/thoughts/suggestions. -- chris // cdb.webhop.org

The on-line demo is still there. Appropriately enough it can be found at: http://www.white-wolf.com/vtes/demo/ Once the demo reaches it's limit you may want to find real people to play with. Find local organizers (Princes) here: http://www.white-wolf.com/vtes/veknPrinces.html . Find players in your area here: http://206.65.59.246/VTES/member.tpl Good luck! I hope to bleed you one day. For the current Set (Camarilla Edition) which can be considered a "basic" set there are 5 Starters : Malkavian, Toreador, Nosferatu, Ventrue, Tremere. These are all playable against each other and you can have quite some fun with them. They can also mix with older Starters from Sabbat War Edition. If you like the game and want to get more into it try to contact a local prince (organisators in the worldwide V:EKN player network). There names and emails can be found somewhere on http://www.white-wolf.com/VTES/ johannes walch v:ekn germany

Heh I think we're gonna need all the luck we can get. I'm gonna dig through the demo tonight when I get home from work -- many thanks. -- chris // cdb.webhop.org alt.music.tool info and faq: secondsun.net/amt

The starter with Xaviar is one of the Anarch starters, not a CE starter. [ quoted text not captured ]

[ quoted text not captured ] Ok guys.. remember who started this posting--NEW PLAYERS.. so please don't overflood them with information they don't really need at this moment.. :) We dont' want to discourage them about this great game now, do we? heehee.. Anyways, I hope you found a local Prince that can help you and your friends ease into the game easier.. if not.. keep posting questions.. no questions is a dumb question, so go ahead and ask LSJ, bug him, cuz he is afterall, the official representative of this game. ---Prince of Lalaland---

[ quoted text not captured ] No one really seems to have registered that you already have this box. I reckon a whole box of Jyhad boosters ought to build you a few decks. VTES is kinda weird from that point of view in that you suddenly go from not being able to build anything decent to being able to build almost anything. That's why they produced the preconstructed clan decks. Certainly you have enough cards to give the game a good bash and see if you like it. If you each read the rules you'll probably be able to play ok -especially if you have done the demo. It might go quite slowly at first. I recommend sorting your cards by Disciplines and Clans. IF you have 12 Vamps of some clans make them your crypt -then take all the cards using their clan disciplines and split the cards that don't need a Discipline or Clan to play. Then PLAY the game. I wouldn't worry too much about deck construction or who wins or anything initially -just see what comes up and how it works -then you'll be able to think about it properly. (of course this may be appalling advice or you may already know the cards quite well by the time you read this ;-) My other bit of advice is do your deck building when you have no one to play with rather than spending time you could be playing in ;-) Have fun! :-)
