All right. I first thought that Leandro was female. This is a personal thing, but whenever people refer to obviously female vampires as "he" or "him" and vice versa, I get anal. After many debates, the common consensus among our playgroup was that Leandro was male, Drew Tucker art or not. Here's my question. Is Shane Grimald male or female? The clothing and name are ambiguous, as well as the facial features and hair. (Shane Grimald-Gangrel Antitribu 4 cap. pot dom ani) -Nathan Harada

Leandro is clearly a male. A waify and wan male, but a male none the less. I don't find it at all surprising that all of the powerful IC members are women except for the Malkavians (they are crazy after all...). I must speak up in defense of Drew Tucker, as I feel he is one of the best artists that WOTC has working for them. His work is not as representational as, say, Tim Bradstreet or Quinton Hoover, but his impressionistic work adds a great deal of class to the WOTC card sets. It is just fine to dislike Drew's work, but to say it is bad just makes one sound ignorant. The same sort of reaction was given to Monet and Picasso, and hey, they are Monet and Picasso. Not to say that Tucker is comparable to Monet, but it is the same sort of thing. As to the other ambiguous vamps, KoKo is defenitely a male, and he would kick the ass of anyone who said otherwise (he does rip up signposts, you know...). Shane Grimaldi is also a male, just a hipster male. Ricki Van Demsey is a woman, and a fine one at that. Peter D Bakija PD...@aol.com "I guess they don't hate birds." -Taffy Dale

WotC calls female rulers Princes because White Wolf does. Still, I think that "Prince" as gender neutral sounds better than a multiplicity of Princes and Princesses. This is annoying to some, and is not PC. However, the majority of vampire Princes are indeed dead white European males. This has been grating to many female WoD vampires, especially Lady Anne of London. Why do you think she's called Queen Anne? "Justicar", however, is indeed gender neutral. Justicar- Justice-Judiciary-Judge and all of the above are gender neutral. "Priscus" and all of the other Sabbat titles were taken from the Catholic Church. Is it any wonder that the masculine endings were used? I still think that having one uniform title is better than two or more, and that Prisc_um_ sounds worse than calling Genevieve a Priscus. -Nathan Harada

Dana is a woman, _Didi Meyers_ is either a transvestite, transsexual, or a woman who forgot to shave. The same goes for Patrizia Giovanni and Melissa Barton. I love them all, but shaving is a good thing. Shane Grimald, though, waxes. Zachary is growing fur. How bored are we? How utterly bored can we be that we wax eloquent on the attributes of vampires, and the minutiae of gender differentiations? No one is listening at WotC. Sabbat has been done to death, as well as CL and AI. Some of the newbies we've picked up have been spectacularly ignorant of netiquette. There are a lot of regulars who are off on vacation. L. Gehenna is coming. -Nathan Harada Eventually, I'll post something about the sensuality of androgyny, and I'll link that back to Shane Grimald and Dorian Strack, so as to have a tangential link to Jyhad. ________________________________________________________ I am going to burn down the world I am going to tear down everything that cannot stand alone I am going to turn ideals to shit I am going to shove hope up your ass I am going to reduce everything that stands to rubble And then I am going to burn the rubble And then I am going to scatter the ashes And then maybe SOMEONE will be able to see SOMETHING as it really is WATCH OUT -- Mel Lyman ___________________________________________________

But politeness is not always responded > to in kind, and that can be very frustrating. <snip> I am reminded, after reading some of the latest threads, that newsgroups, chatrooms, talkers, moos, etc. frequently have a higher level of antagonistic or combative behavior. It seems that in the cyber realm a person is more apt to take written remarks as "nasty" or "rude" before taking them as simple statements. This also seems to be true when posting messages; a person is more apt to be direct, bitchy, antagonistic, etc. when responding. The unfortunate thing about posting, or connecting on-line is that a great deal of social cues are missing--i.e. no body language, no visual ques to mood, or tone, no vocal ques to mood or intent. I am sure this is where that dang smiley face originated. (although that one has been abused). I was struck once (a few months ago) by some response to a thread in which the responder thought the original thread writer was being rude and generalizing. The responder proceeded to use virtually identical language to "chastize" this person for his unfounded rudeness, etc. I haven't read the general faq in ages. Sometimes, this newsgroup can be contentious. Remember we don't always know what was in someone's mind when they were writing a post. What can be clear to them is not clear to us on first reading. Some, of course, are intentionally provocative and know it. We might, however, take things calmly and respond civily. I have seen some over reactive responses to posts perceived as 'slamming the entire net community' which may not have been so strong. Then again I've also seen some posts where the poster seems obviously to be trying to incite tension. (boy is *this* rambling!) (sorry)... PjV P.S. We all have things that drive us crazy about both netiquete (sp) and about the subjects discussed in our newsgroups--just relax a little and be polite how's that? -- Check Out: Happy Rhodes -*- Dead Can Dance -*- Cocteau Twins Check Out: Rossy de Palma -&- Almodovar -&- Kate Winslett Check Out: The Invisibles -@- Books of Magic -@- Astro City ^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^#^

The debates on RtI, AI, card-limit, etc., have gotten out of hand, and I'm tired of repeatedly rehashing them. It would be convenient to be able to say "go read the FAQ" the next time someone started in about the 4CL (admittedly, that's part of what I'm trying to do with my web-page, but still). Sigh. I'm going to regret this. If other people are interested in having a newsgroup FAQ, I'm willing to co-ordinate it and archive it on my webpage. My idea for this FAQ is that it would be frequently asked questions _about_the_Jyhad_newsgroup_itself_, and not about Jyhad the game. For example, "who is the Rulemonger?" would be on-topic, but "Can a Shadow Court Satyr use Taste of Vitae?" would not. Maybe some basic questions about gameplay would be included, but nothing vvery esoteric. I would need some help in determining all the questions, and a lot of help in writing answers. Some topics I can think of, off the top of my head: What is rec.games.trading-cards.jyhad? What is the history of r.g.t-c.j? What is a netrep? Who is the current netrep? What are the Rules Team Rulings, and where can I find a copy? Who is L. Scott Johnson? What do all these funny terms (AI, RtI, S&B, B&B, Rush, S&V, etc) mean? What topics shouldn't be brought up because they've been discussed to death? Where can I find out more about these topics, and what should I do if I have something new to say? Can people think of more? Anyway, if anyone is interested, please email with comments or suggestions to mlan...@engr.trinity.edu. Not especially. This tends to be a quite civil newsgroup, and if people insist on making it otherwise, flames do happen. Fortunately, this is a rarity (as LSJ said, the Sound to Noise ratio here is relatively high). > This is the only group I subscribe to so I don't know much about > Newsgroups. Probably the other necessity is a willingness to debate fairly and honestly, and probably most important a willingness to change your mind. I remember once being referred to as an "Ivory Tower" here on the group, which I found funny. My opinion on Card Limits and The Return to Innocence (for notably more recent topics) have changed since my time on this group, as have many other things. Without maintaining an open mind, none of us can get anywhere. [ quoted text not captured ]

I don't have that kind of confidence in the state of Jyhad any longer. - Equity of Costs Gone with Sabbat vampires and many rares - "Fun" decks competing with Tourney Level decks Gone with disproportionately powerful rares (this one isn't quite as bad as I expect it will be if another expansion ever happens) - Deck Strategy winning out over Trumps Been dying slowly... Sabbat added a bunch more fun - Support of the Game Down from marginal to its current state where the head designer claims the old system for vampires "sucked", lack of ANY WotC presence here or on the list. Yeah Unless some phenomenal things happen, I don't expect Jyhad to survive more than another expansion. God, don't I sound positive. :p [ quoted text not captured ]

WotC tried fixing Magic's problems with "ban and print balanced versions" and that didn't work. With Jyhad they tried escalation (more powerful cards and handing out more of problematic things like addition strike) and that didn't work either. Recently they seem to have caught on to the best way to fix CCG problems, as exemplified by the Golden Tenets - change the rules, or live with the problems. But I think it's too late for Jyhad. [ quoted text not captured ] Sigh. It's been a long day, and I apologize for any offense that this may cause, but... <Flame mode on> It's a matter of trying to make a game which was once the absolute best on the market regain that position. When the games support is worth nothing, and balance concerns are being ignored consistently, then we have a problem. We like the game, but we object to its imbalances. What your attitude seems to be is that V:tES is perfect, and that anyone who complains about anything at all is out of their mind, and unworthy to play this game with you(implied from tone of type, attitude, and previous posts, just so no one tells me I'm being too harsh w/ out justification). This is seriously out of touch w/ the realities of the game right now. I don't think that you or anyone has the right to barge in and tell people who care very deeply about this game not to play it, and to imply that they have nothing meaningful to say if they are making any kind of point about the game being imperfect, and not to expect flames far more vicious and vitriolic than this one. Good night. <Flame mode off, thank all of you for your patience....> Alec Chang

This is seriously out of touch w/ the > realities of the game right now. Everything that has ever been created by man is imperfect. This line has nothing to do with anything. Imperfections is what keeps life interesting. My group was like to do this too, and alot of us had dropped the game completly. But there are a few of us who still play, and I don't represent them in the slightest. I am the most outspoken in the group. I believe in conform. But there are only so much that the cards can do, and what couldve been done to change them after they have been printed. I know alot of rulings that has ever been made has come from this newsgroup. It is hard for the average player to get ahold of these rulings though. I also know that some of these rulings are posted on the Internet, which is a good thing. But again, not everyone has Internet Access. I think we should play with these cards, even the new rules in the errata, (example "before combat" changed to "as combat is entered.") There are a select few who actually know this rule out of a large number of players. Gehenna is coming. Whether we like it or not, which is very unfortunate to Jyhad/Vampire players. But it is so far away in the future, I don't think that we should worry about it just yet. The release of "The Sabbat" has brought new players, but unfortunatly dropped old ones. Which is very sad. I think it was because of that we were used to getting things in expansion sets, but what happened was that the Sabbat was rammed down our throats with it's whopping 450 something cards. No, your not too harsh. In fact I admire you, because of your texts to this group and from what I have ready you are obviously a good player. > I don't think that you or anyone has the right to barge in and tell > people who care very deeply about this game not to play it, and to > imply that they have nothing meaningful to say if they are making any > kind of point about the game being imperfect, and not to expect flames > far more vicious and vitriolic than this one. Sorry if the previous was offensive. But I think we should concentrate more on playing the game and living with it's imperfections, than arguing the fact it is imperfect and trying to rub out it's imperfections. (I don't consider this fact to all the players of this group, it is the general feeling that I got when I first entered this group many months ago. > Good night. Kon Ban Wa.
