Saturday night. Playing Malkavians. Hand jam. Damn! Wait... maybe I can get rid of one card. Concealed Weapon. But no weapon in my hand. Damn! Well, I played it anyway: as combat began, I said "Ozmo attempts to equip a weapon with Concealed Weapon... but I have no weapon in my hand so the card has no effect." Was this allowable? Or is it the same crime as adding stealth when you're not blocked (or adding intercept when there's no stealth on the action you're blocking)? Same time, same place, same hand jam. During master phase I played Misdirection, and set x to 0. Allowable? Or not, under the same theory? You can certainly play an X card with an X of 0, so can play Misdirection for 0 just to get rid of it. This uses up a master phase action, of course. You can also add blood to a vampire, or refill a vampire, that is already at capacity. So you can waste Giant's Blood on a full vampire if you want. Playing Disguised (or Concealed) Weapon with no weapons in hand is a bit murkier, though. It's unclear whether this is one of those "success is not required" actions, like playing a useless strike, or one of those "you must be doing something useful" actions, like trying to increase stealth. I'll have to find out which way we want to go with this. Tom Wylie rec.games.trading-cards.* Network Representative for aa...@cats.ucsc.edu Wizards of the Coast, Inc.

I don't believe any of these things are legal int the new VteS rules it does say that you cannot increase stealth unless intercept has been played as for the others I don't think you should be able to "Sluff" cards Giants blood cannot be "Sluffed" so why should others be allowed. Errol

As far as I can tell from WotC Jyhad and V:TES rules allow you to play a combat card to no effect. They also allow you to play a master with X in it's cost as 0. Useful for removing a hand jam, but not terribly powerful Similarly, playing a threats modifier to a bleed is legal in response to a block. It may not make any sense logically that you would want to increase the bleed associated with a blocked action but then Superior Form of Mist may make it worthwhile. So yes, play them as you did. This is a rule that may be House Rule Overridden though, so officaly feel free to play this way unless everyone else hinks it's wrong. >- Neil Stu -- "Terrible to see places I grew up going up in flames." -- Sinclair, "A Voice in the Wilderness I"

Here's a bit of a twist to the question. I've done this several times to the horror of my prey. A Malkavian with superior obfuscate gets intercepted when attempting a massive bleed (I know not possible but my prey had a gangrel with three raven spies, cat's guidence, KRCG, and a sport's bike and me with only two stealth cards in the hand). Anyways we get into combat. I have no weapon in hand but know that my deck is full of guns. I play the disguised weapon and pick up the next card. Presto a saturday night special which I proceed to use to jump to long range and Dragon's breath rounds come out of the disguised gun and "POOF" there goes the blocker. To say the least my opponent was not pleased Just an amusing note of fun Jeff
