Brilliant. You just suck, and a lot of people will agree with this
statement.
If you have a so good combat hand, why not use it
on your predator or prey instead of a guy cross table ?
I heard an other argument during qualifiers at Gamex/strategicon : "i don't
like you". The guy was deflecting all the bleeds he could to me, and i
wasn't his prey : sure he didn't like me. I let him do, just to see the
outcome of such a strange behavior. But i swear that next time i'll call a
judge at the first deflec' and go on retaliation if he accepts the "cross
tabler's" argument of that caliber.
I'm *really* tired of people doing stupid things cross table hiding behind
shitty arguments. Especially when i'm the target of their silly behaviour.
To show them how stupid it is, i even give up on the game and do everything
i can to oust them, so they can understand the feeling of being overwhelmed
by 3 enemies : prey, predator, and cross table nemesis. Absolute retaliation
is not a clever move in terms of VP gain, i know that, but it shows other
people to not fuss with you again. Play your Fame, Havens and Golcondas on
him, 5th tradition his prey's vamps, announce you'll eagle sight block every
single action he attempts. Make the job easy for his predator and prey. When
he's ousted, i can always try to come back in regular play. If i cannot,
then nevermind : the "cross-tabler" still left the table *before* I did, i
had my victory over him. It always worked, so i'll continue this way. But my
only hope is one day i can stop doing so, cause this day everyone will
eventually understand that going cross table without reason is just plain
wrong and deserves the game. The prey-predator relationship is here for a
purpose, ya know...

maybe you just consider it stupid but actually it is a good move
i often deflect my predators bleed on my grandpredator hoping the kill each
other during the combat.
during the austrian qualifier the following happend.
i had a malk out and my pred played a madness network.
my grandprey had 3 pool left.
my pred bleed me twice with night moves.
i deflected it twice to my grandprey. he and his friend from praque got mad
claming that we three all from austria help each other. i told them to shut
up and see what would happen. between turns i called a kindred restructure
changing the seating order and bleed my former grandprey and new prey for 1.
at first this might have looked strange but most of the times people have
reasons to make seemingly stupid things

kindred restructure and the like change the standard way of prey and
predator so a 'cross table game' can be acceptable if you have one in
your hand,
cause there is the purpose to gain more VP!
Anyway it's up to the judge to be strong against collusion.
In sanctioned tournament if you do not be afraid to call
a judge for collusion and this one put a warning to the two
collusion suspected players, i hope they will stop.
Up today i have never seen a judge give a warning for collusion :o(
I hope this will change.

There's nothing wrong with that, because what you were doing helped you
win the game. What's frustrating is what we here call "being a crazy
Malkavian." The origin of this phrase was from GenCon ('98 I think),
when Adrian Sullivan and I were at a table with another player who was
taking pointless and destabilizing cross-table actions. When we asked
him what he was doing, he said (paraphrase) "I'm a crazy Malkavian, so
I'm acting crazy!"
Since there is a strong overlap between the RPG and this game, there
will inevitably be people who will try to "role-play" during the card
game, and often this will lead to "fun" (but not "effective" play).
This is aggravating to people who are trying to win the game, and derive
"fun" not just from "look what cool thing just happened" but from the
competition.

Yeah, I'm gonna hafta agree here. It's simple, succinct, and it gets
the point across (in a second language, no less). And it annoys me to
see everyone tossing up these flimsy-ass reasons that a blind man
could see through. =/

He he he... I completely agree. In fact I was stuck with the same guy in
couple of rounds. In one round of the national qualifier he kept deflecting
to me, even when I had a stealth bleed predator, for seemingly no reason.
Finally I got ticked off and asked why the hell he was deflecting to me. He
said I had too many votes on my vampires. I responded, "you know we can work
together on the votes. Maybe a nice 2 and 2 deal... ". He suddenly got a
somewhat confused look and said "Oh, I guess that would work...". Idiot...
He later started his minion phase by plopping down a Govern on Arika
followed by a bonding when his prey attempted to block. This of course then
got deflected to me. Since the dolt had run me out of deflections, and I had
no intercept in my hand, he bleed me for 6. He then bleed his prey
successfully with 3 smaller minions for a grand total of 3 pool... His
stealth bleed prey easily bleed me for my 8 remaining pool on his turn and
eventually swept the table.
There seemed to be a rash of this stuff last con.

You can't avoid stupid (humm sorry no unsportman ) guys in tournament,
you can only check any mistake they do or become as stupid as they are.
For friendly games it's another matter.
Some times ago i have decided to stop playing friendly game with one
guy of my playground cause of unsportmanlike conduct (like cross table
game, commit game suicide, quit in the middle of the game etc...)
I'm bored of that kind of people!
Do you of which guy i'm talking about reyda ?

Amen! I hate the kind of crap that the VTES tournament scene seems to be
turning into. Which happens to be the reason why I quit playing Magic and am
on the verge of quitting L5R as well.

I know ! just try to avoid him, that's all. Or try to explain him his
behaviour his boring.

Obviously you had a tough situation, but this guy was certainly
not coming across the table for a bad reason, or any reason
that would be affected by the new rule. If your votes
shut down his deck, he couldn't play. He's also not an idiot
for having you killed instead of carving up the table in an
alliance that he probably never does in his regular play.

I hope it doesn't - that is, I hope we never have the problem of
collusion. :-)

In my book it's almost always bad to hurt your prey's prey early in the
game. It's just not prudent to assist your prey in getting a victory point
early in the game. It's even more foolish if you prey happens to a dominate
stealth bleed deck. Of course this is just my view I guess...

Perhaps not. However he is an idiot for not even consulting a player that
may present a problem before screwing with him across the table. Especially
when is your prey's prey.

And especially since that guy could potentially be your only ally, being
cross-table and all. Why waste energy trying decimate him instead of doing
it toy our prey? Say you take 6 pool of each in 2 rounds, why not have taken
12 pool from your prey and have him ousted instead? This way you:
1) have made sure you got at least one VP
2) don't make it easier for your prey and risk him ousting his prey before
you oust him.
3) can instead ally with your grandprey possibly make it even easier for you
to oust your prey
4) don't get an unnecessary enemy, on top of your prey and predator, and who
might really screw up for you as a revenge, through votes etc because he is
afraid you're going to oust him and sees you as a threat.
Four very good reasons, I can't think of any reason to damage him, other
than if he's a weenie deck that gets really powerful if it starts going and
you want to prevent that.

I think you've just made a geographical error. The Dutch that's spoken in
the Netherlands is called Nederland. The dutch that's spoken in the Northern
part of Belgium (Flanders) is called Flemish. (Officially there's no
difference, of course).
