Baltimore Purge:
Action. Requires a ready vampire.
If this vampire is Ravnos, this action is at +1 stealth. Put this
card on the acting vampire. During your untap phase, burn this
card, and each other Methuselah chooses a ready vampire he or she
controls who is not older than this vampire. If you control a ready
Lasombra, you choose the vampires instead. This vampire and the
chosen vampires go to torpor.
-----------------------------
Is the "you choose the vampires instead" part intended to supplant
the entire "each other Methuselah chooses a ready vampire he or she
controls who is not older than this vampire"? I'm guessing it only
replaces the "each other Methuselah chooses" part (and not the "not
older than this vampire" part), but wanted to check.

It changes who choses. It doesn't change the restriction on what gets
chosen.

They also missed off the part on this card that should read:
"Goverment Health Warning: The playing of Baltimore Purge may
seriously affect your health" :)
Is there any defence against this muck? It has already been pointed
out that Moncada can call this freak drive and renewed vigour so hes
sitting there ready to bounce back out of torpor as soon as he drops
in...so aside from blocking it, or a DI, how can this be
blocked/stopped? Burning or banishing the vampire with the card, OK
but not the easiest task in the world, to stop your mono deck vampire
being cast into the bin from across the table next turn.
Good job they angled this at the lasombra because they were looking
unplayable for a moment.
Im off to build a in torpor deck before its to late....Tension in the
ranks??

You named a few : Banishment, Burning, Block. D.I. and Rewind time also
work.
Consider playing with Graverobbings, Crimson fury to counter / use at your
advantages the torpor effect of Baltimore purge.
you can also be smart and play with low caps and don't be very bothered if
one of them hits torpor.
I think this card only bugs decks which rely on a single, big vampire. (like
"one man show crypt")
If someone wants to risk his moncada to torpor i'll be the first to
sacrifice a weenie to go munch him =)

Top of my head (not all practical, I know:-) ):
Fame, the new card: Tension in the Ranks, having enough small
undifferentiated vamps, he can only have 1 renewed vigor, so he needs to get
a new one every turn, rush, blocking (either the renewed vigor or the BP
which is a 0 stealth action), use renewed vigor yourself, Chantry, Faithful
Servant, Humanitas, Catacombs, Protect thine Own, playing only 11 caps,
peace of Kethamon,....

To me, this card has attached a "use with daring dawn" clause. After all,
you are going to torpor, arent you?
Main trick i see with this card is to be played with several political
struggles. Torporize votes, get majority, leave torpor, and use Tyler to
diablerize everyone in torpor (She has POT dom obt, didn't she?).
Well, i guess that, from now on, whenever I see Monçada hit the table, I'll
consider him a major offense, just like Arika or Leandro

Here's a nasty scenario:
Gangrel with this card: Use vulnerability to burn one of the vamps that
just went into torpor. Then, on your turn, do all the nasty
protean/fortitude torpor actions to get right back out of torpor unscathed
(plenty of stealth to do it with) or Renewed Vigor the turn before to make
sure you come right out on top of things. Minion taps, freak drives and
regenerations for blood gain. NASTY!
[ quoted text not captured ]
Not exactly... the vampire that takes the action doesn't go into torpor
until his controller's next untap phase, and neither does anyone else -
at least that's what card text reads like.
So Daring the Dawn on playing this card would basically be saying
"diablerize me before my next turn".

Plus with the new NRA rulings, diablerie is a No card action so can be
attempted multiple times.(?)
So what the previous threads are suggesting is that from now on i
either change my deck building to include living with this card, by
either playing weenie decks or inner circle members?
Dont get me wrong, im not whining (much!) it just seems like a game
changing card to me, thats all.
Im off to buy some ventrue starters.

Me too. Some very, very VERY nasty decks are going to be made with
this card. A couple of cards / Vamps are tailor-made to cause serious
problems for a whole table with a decent BP deck.
A few things that boggle my mind about this card :
-Lasombra were pokey enough anyway :o)
-Does not cost / require much at all (compare to other effects...
Summon the Abyss, votes etc.)
-Cross table effect is HUGE and largely unstoppable
-The 'best' clan to play it happen to have access to stealth,
permanent stealth and Graverobbing
-Released in a set of formula-based, very good mid to high cap vamps
I think it will cause a lot of truly messed up games in tourneys near
YOU soon. The power level flies way of the scale with the only
downside being that you go to torpor the next turn.
Strange, strange card to bring out ?? Reminded me a lot of my reaction
to RtI when I opened my first one in Ancient Hearts... and that ain't
good.

For the record, the same was said about The Slaughterhouse and Meddling
of Semsith, for example. AFAIK no deck built around either card has won
a single tournament.

No, the only downside is that you have to tune the whole deck to use it
properly. That means you'll be vulnerable to some decks, and since
you're likely to turn the whole table against you, this becomes a huge
factor.

Two big differences between this and RtI: the Purge doesn't oust, it
just hurts your prey's and predator's minions (and everybody else's
too); RtI is directed at your prey, Purge hurts everyone, so a smart
table will turn against you... good luck.

I hate they way that players compare everything to whether or not a given
deck / card / whatever has won x number of tournaments. If you took the time
to read the post properly, you would see that I mentioned twice the
detremental effects of the card (or a deck built round the card) on the
table or tourney as a whole and don't believe I actually mentioned a tourney
winning situation at all. For the record.
Was there a lot of trepidation about Meddling ? Don't recall a lot myself
but I might be wrong <........> kind of doesn't matter really though does it

No..... heh, a real non-confrontational way to start an answer there Flux
:o(
Anyway, I agree with you to a certain extent but surely you can see that a card like this could open up a MASSIVE can of worms. Once stealthed through, a skillful player would bargain with the table and use the BP's as an inevitable evil that *might* aid or slaughter them.
I think the card is so accessible that the main problem will come from it being used in moderation as opposed to BP specific decks designed to abuse it (although these are gunna really rock the boat as well). I suppose my real beef with it is is that it wallops the whole table with the two poor sods across the table having very little say in the matter at all (other than if they play weenies or 12 pointers :o).
Also, with a bit of skillful building and a handful of reprinted common and uncommons, a focussed BP deck will IMO be able to stand up to quite a bit of abuse buying the player time to lay down BP after BP and Graverobbing the pick of the bunch.

Here I am really discussing my reaction and the fact that I compare RtI and BP power levels not the actual process and effect of the cards but since you brought it up..........
RtI - Superouster. Pros - massive bleed potential needs to be backed up by unblockable, stealth or similar. Cons - Burns big vampire, costs 4.
BP - Supertorporiser. Pros - one torpored vamp per player, stealth needed. Cons - Same vamp goes to torpor next round, no cost.
Obviously different effects but you must start to see what I am getting at ? Torporing a vamp of potentially your choice from each player is a very strong effect, as I said in my earlier post, compare it to Summon the Abyss or Protect
Thine Own or to a lesser extent Rabble Razing. It is not the direct Exocet
missile that was RtI but it is IMO of a similar power level and is at least
in the wrecking ball category.
Sitting down to a game with only an average BP deck, the table won't be able
to turn against you because it will be so shagged. Thinking of *every single
deck* I currently have built, only one would have a good chance to handle
such a damaging effect as this turn after turn.
Maybe argue that everyone should change their strategies / building to take
into account one card ? Wasn't that why RtI was banned in the first place ?

What about ways to stop this (other than intercept)?
Am I correct in assuming that if the acting vampire is burned (though
combat or torpor+diablerie) that come untap phase the action fizzles?

"Fizzles" probably isn't technically the correct term, but it won't
happen, right.
All cards on a minion are burned if the minion they're on is burned,
and since Baltimore Purge is "put on the acting vampire", and its
untap effect is based on the card (BPurge) being in play, it won't
happen if BPurge isn't in play at the appropriate time.

Nobody's mentioned the plus here. Unwallpapers Sixth Tradition, makes
The Deadliest Sin more fun, encourages Rush-and-Burn capability in
combat decks, and makes allies more attractive (since they can block
things vampires can't).
OTOH, I will definitely include Marcus Vitel in any attempt I make at
a Lasombra BP deck, since he has all the requisites, is a 10, and can
play 6th Tradition.

What better way to get someone to block an action and then use the storm

Well yesh - you haven't been reading this board for a while then. I
remember seeing HUGE numbers of posts on that card. It was 'broken'
it was going to unbalance the game, it was the ultimate bada$$.
People kind of forget that the very nature of the game and why we love
it tends to lead to decks that contain "Holy Crap thats a nasty card"
combos getting ganged up on during tourney play. And having played
meddling of sesmith during a game and then having some schmuck put out
-1 hand size for everyone ventrue-butt-boy Jan Pieterzoon I learned
the negatives can suddenly outweigh the positives. You can feel real
inadequate with a 5-card hand size... <g>
