What's the Story?

I've been wondering what the status is of the official V:tes storyline, timeline, and cannon. Last we heard, given Gehenna and all, V:tes was going to be kind of frozen in the pre-Gehenna years (1999-2003ish?). Now that WW has their shiny new World of Darkness and we're the last denizens of the old one, can we (or VEKN or WW or some duly designated party) take the reigns and run with "our" world now? We've got the Infernal Plague Storyline and a bunch of BYO Storylines popping up with lots of fun ideas (including Boston plug, plug). It seems like its time to forge the new V:tes Cannon. I would like to seem a little revisionist history for Gehenna. It was a kind of choose-your-own-adventure in the end, right? How about V:tes Gehenna is not so much a single, cataclysmic event as a process that'll go on for years and years. Not so bad at all really. Play on. And in the meantime the Ventrue can go Infernal, formidable and unusual new clans and bloodlines can emerge etc... etc... Wouldn't that be more fun than being frozen in amber pre-Gehenna? The struggle IS supposed to eternal. -Ben Swainbank

[ quoted text not captured ] Every game sort of starts in the end times -- around 2000 and before the onset of Gehenna. (And "around" includes a great deal of leeway.) That's simply the basis for the game. It doesn't mean the game is frozen. Princes come and go (see group 1 princes vs. group 3), vampires can be advanced, etc. For VTES, Gehenna is as short or as drawn out as the events in each game dictate. In the meantime the Malkavians could develop Dem instead of Dom, the Ventrue could become Infernal, The Gangrel could leave the Camarilla, etc. Play on. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. That works. So, lets assume V:tes Storyline events in the future include a clan becoming Infernal, or a new clan appearing, or the Red Sox winning the World Series or whatever change - dramatic or not. I take it then that the fact that the existing WoD Books etc.. make no mention of such an event prior to the end times is not really a problem so far as V:tes and WoD continuity is concerned. Correct? > Play on. Indeed. Thanks for the clarification. -Ben Swainbank

In theory, depending on cards played, each game could be set anywhere in the later 20th century really. So events in game, and in future expansions shouldn't matter too much. Just assume that the Gehenna expansion was set in the future somepoint. -- Colin "Eryx" Goodman Cambridge UK http://www.geocities.com/eryx_uk/Cambridge_by_night.html

Every game begins sometime back before the Assamites broke the Blood Curse and the Tremere Antitribu were obliterated, and proceeds in some strange direction from there. There is no V:TES Canon, only Zuul.

Correct? Correct. Except for that Red Sox thing. This is a Dark World, but never that dark. :-) -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc.
