Quick question that came up in a game last night: I play a Mind of a Child on one of my predators minions. One of my prey's minions attempts to burn the Mind of a Child a couple turns later. As it doesn't say the action to burn it is directed, even on new card text, is the action to burn it directed at my predator and I unable to block without Eagle's Sight? In other words, does the prey of the minion attempting to burn the Mind of a Child get first blocking rights, then the predator? Or is my predator the only one who can choose to block? Here is the relevant card text: Mind of a Child [dem] (D) Put this card on any vampire. The vampire with this card cannot play cards that require Disciplines. Any vampire can burn this card as a +1 stealth action.

An action taken by your prey and directed at your predator is directed and can only be blocked by your predator. [6.2.2.1] -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. [6.2.2.1] But why does the action become directed at the methusela controling the "childlike" vampire, when the card does not state that the removing action is a (D) action? The card doesn´t say that the action is directed at the card, as with Heart of Darkness. Shouldn´t the text then be: Mind of a Child [dem] (D) Put this card on any vampire. The vampire with this card cannot play cards that require Disciplines. Any vampire can burn this card as a (D) action at +1 stealth. And then the default rule that one cannot perform (D) actions at one self, would make the action to remove undirected for the minions of the methusela with the "childlike" minion. What have I missed? The card doesn´t say that the action > is directed at the card, as with Heart of Darkness. The presence of absence of a (D) symbol has no bearing on the directedness of an action. An action is directed if it targets another Methuselah (which includes the stuff the Methuselah controls). It is undirected if it is not directed (that is, if it targets the controller of the acting minion or targets more than one Methuselah). See the cited section of the rules for confirmation. > Shouldn´t the text then be: > Mind of a Child > [dem] (D) Put this card on any vampire. The vampire with this card > cannot > play cards that require Disciplines. Any vampire can burn this card as > a (D) action at +1 stealth. No, since the action is *usually* undirected (that is, it is usually taken by a minion controlled by the controller of the juvenile minded vampire). > And then the default rule that one cannot perform (D) actions at one > self, There is no such rule. Indeed, such a rule is pointless, since the directedness of an action doesn't exist until the target is fixed. > would make the action to remove undirected for the minions of > the methusela with the "childlike" minion. The rule that says the action is undirected is what makes the action undirected. It has nothing to do with any rule about what actions cannot be performed. > What have I missed? Greatings LSJ Ok, I see your point on (D) actions. But there is still one thing to sort out. Why is the remove action granted by Mind of a Child (and The Haunting & Lunatic E I guess) targeting the card? As I see it : There is nothing in the card text that states that the remove action has the card as a target, and therefore the action has no target and should be undirected. What have I missed this time? Ronnie

One additional question about Mind of a Child: The superior says: As above, and the capacity of the vampire with this card is reduced by 1 (but not below 1). Remove excess blood. Does this go away when the card is burned, or is this a permanent effect? //Petri

[ quoted text not captured ] The action to burn X is directed at X. See Arson. [ quoted text not captured ]

Just to check: If I have two minions in play. One has a Unique (LoQuipment) Location and I have another copy of the same Equipment and an Arson in my hand. I can then have the minion with the location play the Arson, burning the location as a undirected action. If neither prey or predator blocks, the location burns. After which, my other minion is free to take an equip action to bring out the copy from my hand. Ronnie
