Two clarifications wanted (LSJ?)

A couple of clarifications would be nice: 1) The Rulemonger pages have these entries (among others) for Heidelburg Castle: Heidelburg Castle may not be used during an action (including during combat). [RTR 980707] Heidelburg Castle may not be tapped "in response" to any instant effect (because all effects in VtES are instantaneous except for actions and certain combat effects). [LSJ] I'm a bit unclear on what the net effect of this is. In particular, can I tap the HC in response to someone's action (say I have a Raven Spy on a tapped minion, and I want to move it to an untapped one in order to block my predator's bleed)? In other words, how is "during an action" defined? 2) Damage prevention cards can now be played any time during the combat round. Does this mean that if some effect were to deal damage "before range is determined" (for example), it would be legal to prevent this damage at once and then move on to the "set range" step? //Petri

No. That is "during" that action. > In other words, how is "during an action" defined? Which brings up a question: As the acting player always plays effects first, could the acting player just always declare next action as an instantaneous effect following resolution of last action, rendering use of Heidelberg illegal at any time during the non-Heidelberg player's minion phase? If not, why not? gomi not being difficult, just curious -- you say they taught you how to read and write yeah, they taught you how to count i say they taught you how to buy and sell your own body by the pound

No. > If not, why not? For the same reason the acting minion can't skip the "before range" part of combat and play a maneuver to keep his opponent from playing Drawing Out the Beast. Just because you get to go first doesn't mean you get to skip steps. [ quoted text not captured ]

Ok... but doesn't that bring a race situation into a game that otherwise lacks them? In other words, when the acting player ends one minion action his prey has to be quick to say "andthenIuseHeidelberg!" before the acting player can announce his next action. Not sure that this is a good thing... //Petri

[ quoted text not captured ] No. Your concern is a paraphrase of Gomi's message (deleted from your post). The answer is subsequently the same - see my response to Gomi's post. [ quoted text not captured ]
