I'd be much obliged if I could get a well-formulated opinion as to the meaning of a card text. The card in question is Depravity from AH. Originally, I interpreted it to mean that the vampire possessing this master gained +1 stealth and +1 hand damage when attempting diablerie, but (without putting on my grammarian's hat) other players have argued that the +1 hand damage benefit is universal. It all hinges on the role of the "and" in the final sentence: is it a linking minor class word, or just a conjunction to a minor cluase? Secondly, can the aggravated damage from Force of Will be translated (yes, I am aware that it is unpreventable) into non-aggravated by Merill Molitor and/or Skin of Night? Thanks for any responses, Sean Whittaker

I read it as "(+1 hand damage) and (+1 stealth when diablerizing)". I haven't heard an official reading, though. >Secondly, can the aggravated damage from Force of Will be translated >(yes, I am aware that it is unpreventable) into non-aggravated by Merill >Molitor and/or Skin of Night? No, since the damage from Force of Will doesn't occur during combat, and both of the effects you mention are combat effects. Heart of Darkness would convert the damage into regular damage, since it is not a "combat-only" effect. -- L. However, a similar ruling seems to have been made in the case of Rutor's Hand... [ quoted text not captured ]

Only to explain how the non-combat "preventable" damage was handled. If Force of will's damage was listed as "preventable", then it would probably fall under similar errata/ruling. As it is, though, you're comparing apples to oranges. [ quoted text not captured ]

Force of Will does not have explicit card text saying that it can be prevented. Thus, combat cards can not be played in response. If Merrill Molitor can change aggravated damage to regular at any time (can't remember card text) then he can "prevent" the effect, otherwise no to both.
