Is WotC trading old Jyhad for V:TES?

I've heard that the Wizards have made an effort to buy back Jyhad boxes and booster from wholesalers/retailers/whatever in effort to make a place in the market for V:TES. Is this true? Ever since this name change from Jyhad has first been proposed, I've been concerned about people's reactions to cards that I personally own. "Oh, no. Look. He has those wicked cards with that horrid reference to Middle Eastern terrorist's groups! Jyhad!" In all seriousness, though, does WotC have any concern for faithful participators/purchasers/enthusiasts/supporters of Jyhad (now V:TES)? Am I now stuck with a product that is effectively defective? Is not the name on the cards I already own an affront to certain people/ethnic groups/nationalities no matter what steps WotC has taken to rectify it with V:TES? Ultimately, I guess I'm wondering if they will also buy back/trade 1-for-1-rarity-for-rarity the cards I have purchased from them and provide me with the perfected product--the product that is not insulting people by callously using a questionable term. WotC has stated in no uncertain terms that they are not going to do any sort of Jyhad/VTES tradein. The idea has been championed by many members of this group, but the official Netrep (Tom Wylie) informs us that the decision has been made for financial reasons. Apparently, VTES could not withstand the financial hit of a trade-in of Jyhad cards. (WotC could as a company, but it would apparently make the balance sheets for VTES go so far into the red that the game would never recover and become a moneymaker. So goes the official story.) If it was so offensive, why did you buy them in the first place? Just because WotC says it's offensive now when it wasn't a year ago? It's one thing to be compassionate it's another to be hung up on what is politically correct. If you've been using racial slurs your entire life and one person says "hey that's wrong", trading in your old habits for friendly habits doesn't make the bad ones go away. Someone mentioned Jihad being a term for "struggle" and not "holy war", I don't think the cards I own have offended anyone.

Yes, we have concern for those who bought Jyhad, which is why the cards are legal in tournaments, why VTES uses basically the same rules, and so on. >Ultimately, I guess I'm wondering if they will also buy back/trade >1-for-1-rarity-for-rarity the cards I have purchased from them and provide >me with the perfected product--the product that is not insulting people by >callously using a questionable term. Unfortunately the brand would not survive the financial hit of any kind of tradein program. I remember hearing : something on the news about it recently but don't remember the exact : number, just that it was BIG! People have brought that up several times--that WotC is a company that makes a lot of money and therefore can afford to take a huge loss in doing the Jyhad/VTES exchange. While I wish that J/VTES made enough for them to warrant such a trade, I have to side with WotC otherwise. While WotC can total their gross and profits, they don't do so with all games combined. Each game must be totalled separately, I'm sure. If any game comes out in the red, I would assume they would do what they can [cheaply as possible since the game is already losing money] to fix it, and if not, probably scrap it. For a long time [before VTES was announced], this is what I thought they did with Jyhad. Pulling lots of money from the very profitable items and putting it into an item that is losing money or making no profit has ruined many a company. If VTES is only scrambling by [despite DS sales], then it makes no sense for the company to spend the amount of money to do an exchange [if it is a high amount] if they feel the return on the investment will not even be positive. If the company feels that even after doing the exchange, VTES will be no better off, then I can't blame them for not doing it--and think about it: Why does everyone want this exchange so badly? SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO BUY VAMPIRE: THE ETERNAL STRUGGLE. What company in their right mind is going to spend huge amounts of money to prevent their customers from buying their product? Not that I feel that they did the right thing by changing the backs, mind you... Nor that the DC should have made the 40/60 ruling. Both were very stupid decisions that threaten to cut off the game's lifeblood--its players. A 20/80 or 30/70 split ruling would have been better, and the only thing we can hope for is a reversal of the 40/60 ruling. The card backs will most likely NEVER be changed back to Jyhad [then we'd have Jyhad cards with Jyhad backs, VTES cards with their backs and VTES cards with Jyhad backs. New players would never get it.], and unless new and old players buy the VTES out there, there is likely never to be a trade-in. And even then I wouldn't get my hopes up until the player base for VTES/Jyhad doubles or triples and everyone wants the trade. -- --------------------------------------------------------------------------- | "What is a man without the beasts?
