We played a game last night where some new questions came up. I'd appreciate other's thoughts on them. 1. When playing Misdirection (Master: Tap X minions) who gets to choose which minions are tapped? We played that the acting Methuselah chooses, but some one last night wanted to tap his vampires in torpor. He argued that if the acting Methuselah chooses then the card is too powerful. 2. Another Methuselah attempted to bleed, the victim chose not to block but played a Telepathic Misdirection reducing the bleed to 0 and making it unsuccessful. Playing a reaction card doesn't tap the vampire. In light of this the acting Methuselah felt that since his action was unsuccessful, his vampire should not be tapped. Normally, an unsuccessful action leads to combat and the vampire remains tapped after combat end. What happens when an action is unsuccessful and combat never happens? 3. Finally, when a Methuselah has Heidelburg Castle (tap to move equipment, blood, etc, from one minion to another) in what phase does this exchange happen? For instance, can he perform an action with an equipped vamp, use the equipment in combat, tap the castle, give the equipment to a second vamp, perform an action with the second vamp and use the exchanged equipment in the new combat? This gets pretty nasty if the equipment deals aggrivated damage. Thanks, Ptah

You have been playing correctly. The controlling Methuselah makes all choices concerning her cards (unless otherwise stated in card text). Misdirect any minions you chose. >2. Attempting an action taps a minion. Not successfully completing an action, and not combat. The minion attempting a bleed was tapped the moment the attempt began, and nothing happened (Freak Drive, etc.) to change taht - so the minion is left tapped. >3. Nitpicking Correction: the reacting player probably played a Telepathic Counter (which reduces the bleed), not Telepathic Misdirection (which passes the bleed on to another player. There is no combat in this case: combat occurs when an action is _blocked_, not when it is unsuccessful. The acting vampire is still tapped (as he was not blocked while performing his action) and the receiving methuselah loses 0 blood. A similar situation would occur if a Gangrel who had had Gangrel Deevolution (or Gangrel Atavism in VTES) attempted an unboosted bleed. If not blocked, his action would be successful, but since he would be bleeding for 0, the recipient Meth. would not lose pool. : 3. This gets pretty nasty if the equipment : deals aggrivated damage. According to the card, there are no restrictions as to when equipment may be moved. A recent Rules Team Ruling stated that Errata should be added to the card, stating that it may not be used during a combat. (There is nothing preventing you from using it to switch equipment as a minion is _about_ to enter combat, however, so the ruling is a little weak.) The scenario you describe above is a perfectly legal and legitimate one. Shane H.W. My own personal suggestion is to house rule it to some specific time. For example, as you declare an action, during an untap, during your untap, during master, etc.. Whatever time you choose (if any :) ought to be a time which is specific. This is done to keep the spirit of Jyhad timing alive (and not mess Magic-like timing into the works).
