It is written that players must have 10 games at the end of the year to have a ranking : ok. What will happen at the end of this year ? Will the 5 (or 10 or 20) best players get some special prize ? (that's for W.W :-) or an invitation for a special tournament ? (it could be cool ...) And what will happen with the rating / ranking in january ? will we keep our old one ? (if so, people with high ranking could not play and stay at the first places ? ) Thanx Franck Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

A player must have played in 10 games before her rating becomes "official". A player who's played fewer than 10 games just has a provisional rating. > And what will happen with the rating / ranking in january ? will we > keep our old one ? In fact, to have a ranking you have to play ten official games. Exemple, i've played 13 game, so i have a ranking of 73 and it will be more bad after the result of the last tournament at Montreal will be put on the registry... :-I > What will happen at the end of this year ? > Will the 5 (or 10 or 20) best players get some special prize ? VTES is not that profitable for WW i think. > And what will happen with the rating / ranking in january ? will we > keep our old one ? If you are very good, your rating will become more and more high and maybe someday, you will be in the top 20 players. But is a place at the top 20 that important ? ;-) For my part, what is important is that i play , play and play again in tournament and if i win, cool, but if not and i have fun, it's cool also. :-) Bye, -- Khaleph Alendis, High Priest of Maizerets VEKN Setite Prince of Beauport http://www.oricom.ca/melkor/khaleph/ [ quoted text not captured ]

LSJ, Khaleph, thanx for the clarification. Khaleph, I play for fun too : but to be honest, when in tournament I try to win, like everybody. About fun, I always have more with a good game with my Friend. LSJ, about Ello system FOR Vampire, will the first ranking players have to play X game each year ? I hope so ! Otherwise, Mr the Prince of Paris and Mr the Prince of Vienna (N°1 and N°2 in the world) just have to wait and not play ... (it would be ridiculous !) F. [ quoted text not captured ]

Franck, I understand what you mean. I totally agree with you. For my part I will take part in a lot of tournament next year (since my rating is very high, I will surely loose some points : but a high rating with few games would have no meaning) Stephane Ventrue Prince of Paris. PS : Scott, perhaps a player could have bonus points (to add to the rating) for each 10 games ? (or something like that...) In article <908e74$8as$1...@nnrp1.deja.com>, [ quoted text not captured ]

A points-accumulation system needs periodic resetting, which is what the Elo system avoids. Adding a points accumulation system to the Elo system creates the very problem others have attributed to the basic Elo system. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) VTES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. A "grandmaster"-rated chess player need not play any tournaments to keep her "grandmaster" rating (after playing sufficient tournaments to achieve the rating, of course). Of course, players who play well enough consistently enough to achieve such a rating tend to *want* to play in toureys. But if they prefer not to play and simply get enjoyment out of looking at their ratings, that's OK, too. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. Mmmm.... chess is a game that doesn't evolve anymore; trading card game is different. heard of any news of chess extension with new clans of pawns and bishops ? =) Imo, a great jyhad player of 1994 who cames back to the game now may be totally inept due to the greater number of clans, vampires and cards. reyda

Playing styles evolve all the time. Chess is a game I greatly enjoy but am absolutely terrible at, never having had any formal training, but it's absolutely beautiful to watch when played well. (I'd also highly recommend the book "The Flanders Panel" who even remotely likes the game, since it's used very well.) However, the style evolves all the time. Would a player who hadn't played since the invention of, say, the King's Indian Defence be as skilful now? Say, a grandmaster who achieved his/her status at the age of 40 but for whom ill-health and family troubles had prevented him/her playing for the next 15 years. You don't need to have new items added to a game to make it change and evolve. >Imo, a great jyhad player of 1994 who cames back to the game now may be >totally inept due to the greater number of clans, vampires and cards. You'd be surprised. Assuming a player of Jyhad was familiar with the changes in the game, I'm fairly certain that a good Jyhad player could pretty quickly slip back into the pace. -- James Coupe | PGP Key 0x5D623D5D | ja...@zephyr.org.uk (New e-mail) "Who'd have ever predicted the moment would come when I find myself grateful they've kept women dumb?
