I used to keep up with this newsgroup a LONG time ago, but have since more
or less stopped playing Jyhad. To give you a hint at how long ago I'm
talking about, I was around when LSJ became the company rep and card
limits were still a point of great discussion.
So anyway, I heard a rumor the other week that there were some new
expansions, so I thought I'd look in on and see what was happening in the
world of Jyhad (I never got used to calling it V:tes). Appears White Wolf
has bought the game. Sounds good to me. But does this mean it's not a
"Deckmaster" game anymore, so they'll have to remove that from the
deckbacks? Are there now THREE completely different backs?
How popular are the new expansions? I have a friend who works at a
comic book/RPG/card game store, and he reports that they decided not to
bother ordering any of the new expansions due to lack of demand. Yet, the
White Wolf website claims they sold out of Sabbat Wars. Perhaps it's just
my area.
Reading this newsgroup again got me inspired and I finally organized and
catalogued all of my cards, so now if I can convince my old playgroup to
get back into it maybe I'll even play a few games. Soo...what I'm
basically asking is...what have I missed?

It is still a Deckmaster game. WotC used to license the theme from White
Wolf and use their own deckmaster mechanic. Now White Wolf licenses the mechanic
from WotC and uses their own WoD theme. The license has been reversed. The
card backs (and the rulebook) still say "Deckmaster".

They still are. If you say the c*rd l*mits word loudly enough,
someone will fling themselves onto the spike and have to be beaten
down again. =)

Nope. Two backs: Jyhad and V:TES. The Sabbat War cards still have
the "deckmaster" bit on the back. Or, if you have the eye for such
things, SIX backs: Jyhad, V:TES, Dark Sovereigns, Ancient Hearts,
Sabbat, Sabbat War. But that's mostly based on color-tonal
differences, etc.

Your friend blew it, i'm afraid. Sabbat War sold out the first
printing, and seems to have been doing quite well the second printing,
although I don't know exact sales figures, of course. It's possible
that your area has no demand for V:TES; it's also possible that part
of that reason is because nobody can see it in the stores, and
therefore can't buy it. =)

...and a "TM" vs an "(R)" next to the word Deckmaster...

Ooh, ooh, a sacrifice! Let's organise one.
Huzzah.

Upon close inspection of my card backs, I discovered
that Deckmaster (TM) on cards up to and including
Dark Sovereigns was replaced with Deckmaster (R)
on cards from Ancient Hearts onward.
For fans of pointless minutiae.

Yep, there are 5 distinct card backs. Enjoy. <sigh>

And if any of you ever play under UV lights, you'll notice that AH and
Sabbat card backs become fluorescent (none of the others do). I don't know
about SW though.

Actually, I just happened to play under UV lights once a couple of years
back, when we stopped by a friend's bar and wanted to practice for a
tournament on the next day.
Though GITD counters do sound nice, I must try that sometime... ;-)
