So since everyone is on about "What do we do now?" Can we possibly
organise amongst ourselves to take this opportunity to basically reset
the various things we've disliked or think needed improving such as:
- Centralised VTES Website (a broad forum for things like playgroups,
rulings, pages for Tournaments & photos)
- Revamped Rankings System
- Centralised way to publish things like Storylines
Are there other things? Are there people who would want to join in
these developments (assuming they're not already underway and under
wraps with Robyn et al)?

Really, I think if the game survives and thrives for a few years, WW
will start publishing it again. It seems like, right now, sales have
been sluggish on most sets and anyway CCP wants the WW team's
resources all put towards getting the online WoD game going. Once
that's done, and once stockpiles of old sets have mostly left the
warehouse shelves, I think they'll want to bring back a profitable
product. Provided there's evidence it'll be profitable. The
precedent of the first years in the wilderness and the strong sales of
Sabbat War is a good start. We just need to keep the game alive for a
while now.
Personally, I do NOT want any quasi-official fan sets or home-made
rulebooking while the hope of official republication is alive.
What you propose doing all sounds good. A real website would be a
boon.
What I'm going to do is get the Clan Newsletter I wrote (Harbingers of
Skulls) back on something like a regular schedule. And maybe put some
illustrations or fiction in it.
Also, I'm going to put some time and energy into trying to restart
regular play here in Bloomington, Indiana. We had it going for a
couple of years but never reached a critical mass. I'll try again.
Finally, I'm playing Hoosier Lotto whenever the pot is above $10M and
when I win I'll see if I can afford the license to VTES.

Things seem to be moving along nicely each day. Priority now is on
getting organized (re-forming a player's organization). I'm sure there
will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to help in some way. I'm
waiting for people to meet up at the NAC and speak at length about all
of these matters.
[ quoted text not captured ]
Could you please keep us "Distant Kindred" in the loop? I'd be
willing to help out where I can but not being able to stump up the $10k
+ for me (and my wife) to travel to the NAC just to rock up and maybe
not even play, is a bit out of the question.
[ quoted text not captured ]
I'm not headed to the NAC either. But giving everyone a chance to
talk and put together a plan--including for communicating what the
heck is going on--seems like a good first step.

It would take a while to make the proper website you talk of (as a
website manager). And everyone would have to be on the same page to
move all the respective and current websites to one central location.
Not all over the place like it is now. Certainly such an inviting
website would be one step closer to attracting new players.

Does anyone know if White Wolf is going to continue hosting the V:tES
web pages?
Or do we need to shift everything over to another site?

Yes, the development has been going on since spring 2010. Not at a very
fast pace, but stuff has been done already. If you want to help contact
me and I´ll get you into our communication. Needless to say that the
announcement speeded things up a bit. The current plan is to have
something that works by the end of the year.
[ quoted text not captured ]
And now with the current news I'll redouble my efforts to make it
happen, once I get this month's outstanding work and private issues
sorted out.

That's okay guys. I am not very good at programming, but I am happy
to help by providing ideas, user feedback, helping out with the "non-
programmer-type" planning. I'm not very helpful in that sense, but
I'm willing to try do whatever I can.

All of which is great to hear. The sooner a new player can type VTES,
vampire ccg, jyhad or eternal struggle into Google and get your site
as hit #1, the better.
Excellent.

Excellent, yes. Are there things in there that would benefit from some
extra help?

Not sure what's going to happen, but I'm into storyline tournaments
and if needed, I have a personal website for next 10 years that I'm
not even using yet, in case the 'centralized website' doesn't work
out. I hope this game continues and even Asia is picking up little on
this game.

It sounds like they'll keep the site up for another year but I'm not
sure. Anyway, there will definitely be a replacement site run by a
new players' organization (in whatever form that may eventually take).

I kinda always thought of google groups as our centralized website.
It worked better than anything white wolf put together.
[ quoted text not captured ]
Hard to keep a set of handy downloadables on google groups.
Contrast TheLasombra.com or http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/2122
[ quoted text not captured ]
I agree. The ability to have creative content is good.
On the other hand, all the rulings that have been made over the years
would be so much dust if we had put it on White-Wolf's site. They
never updated the rulings page in how many years?
[ quoted text not captured ]
That's me, not WW. I keep the list updated, but only send it to the
web team as needed.
With as few new items as there have been (and this group and the vtes-
rules list), it doesn't need updating that often.
That said, I'm finishing up the final compilation now.
[ quoted text not captured ]
By the way, I'm running a VTES dedicated Website since april. And I
working hard to translate "Rullings an Clarifications", "Rulebook",
"Storylines", "CardList" and all that I can to brazilian portuguese.
Since begining I intended to make that website a massive resource
support for the brazilian players, including the new ones that not
speak english so well.
I'm to made available downloads of almost all material that I can find
like Wallpapers and tokens to updates of app like FELDB and ARDB.
Brazilian players can count on me to make VTES still goes on.

Regardless of whose responsibility it is to keep it updated, there is
a grand total of 1 update for the entirety of 2010 on the rules page
of White Wolf. I think there have been more rulings than that.
[ quoted text not captured ]
Of course there have. Just not enough to worry about updating the
page.
Esp., as noted, when the google archive and the vtes-rules list exist.

Well I think for starters we might want to avoid group names that
would:
a) offend CCP/WW (i.e. Not Camarilla, Sabbat, etc)
b) draw much attention from say... FBI, CIA, MI5, etc

Kindred Network. Simple, to the point, and no one is squatting on
kindrednetwork.com asking for $11,000 (unlike vtes.com. Yes, I
checked.)

No need to invest in new DNS records when the right one is available
and in use by a player / volunteer with V:EKN.
[ quoted text not captured ]> http://www.vampiretheeternalstruggle.com/
I could offer up usage of my domains monocleofclarity.com and/or
tornsignpost.com, but I admit they don't make very good "organization
names".
[ quoted text not captured ]
*sniffs* is there a smell of a Lasombra about that page?
It's a good web address for it and it allows the organisation to have
it's own independent name.
I'd also be suggesting from a business point of view, that whomever
owns those keeps ownership of the webaddress and licences it to the
next publisher of VTES.
[ quoted text not captured ]
That was me. Registered for possible future use. Intention is to
make it available to the player's org or future publishers, etc.

As to a centralized place,
http://www.vtes.org/
is a domain I own, and I think is a good spot to meet and discuss
these ideas. If anyone has a problem with the site, please let me
know.

it was actually a reference to the name of a group that split off from the
'official' rules back in the mid 90's because they felt that WotC were going
in the wrong direction and/or not actually doing enough. I think the NJL
were the originators of the original NRA rule, etc.
or something like that, anyway.

The Golden Tenets and Sensible Players' Tournament Rules spawned the
original NRA, codified by Adrian Sullivan / Corrupter.
http://www.thelasombra.com/SPTR.htm
Something similar then got taken into the WotC DCI rules. Here's a copy
from December 1996:
http://web.archive.org/web/19961219101037/http://www.wizards.com/DCI/VTES_Rules.html
Look at section IV for the No Repeat Actions rule.
This was ages before the MJL (later NJL) was set up.
Curiously, one of the better ideas in the SPTR was the banning of
Succubus Club but it took years for that to happen in the official
environment.

Thanks for the research. My memories have trouble sorting out actual
timelines for things from last month, let alone 10 years ago :)

Boy it would be AWESOME if we could stir up all the animosity and he
said / she said involving the Michigan Jyhad League vs. Scott Pilgrim
vs. the World again.
Playing with Bernie and Noal each week and hearing about all the
newsgroup backbiting and battles really made me happy I did not engage
in that particular brand of holy war.
