Cards in the ash heap are not "in play".
But cards that are "removed from play" are not placed in the ash heap
(which is just for cards that are burned).
"remove from play" would probably be better worded as "remove from the
game".

"start of the untap phase" is used a lot, and it is usually not clear
why "during the untap phase" would not have sufficed.
Untapping all cards still comes first, as far as I can tell.

V:TES version specifies "vampire" as well. Probably this was
an unintentional chage from the Jyhad version (it wasn't listed
in Tom's list of changes from Jyhad to VTES), but I'm not sure
if it's worth issuing new errata.
