All the chattering about Strike:CE has led me to
believe that my cohorts and I are cambatting all
wrong. What we do in combat is:
1) Announce Blocker
2) Trade maneuvers til range is resolved
3) Choose strike (by either saying hand, weapon, or just
card)
4) Strike resolution, show the strike cards, if used, and
deduce what happened.
Are we going about it all wrong? My (current) understnding
of CE is that it happens before strike resolution begins,
thus denying your adversary the ability to strike. Makes sense,
kinda; FoM: Nothing there to hit :)
Majesty: I'm just too unimportant to hit you :)
I still disagree with dodging hosing First Strike, though.
Maybe if you were quick enough to Dodge with First Strike... :)

You announce the strike by showing the card used for the strike (replacing
it immediately if it came from your hand).
You may say "hand" or name a particular weapon to strike with.

Well what I kind of meant was, during 'Choose Strike', we actually
said, Weapon, Hand or Card. If both minions were using cards,
both Meth.'s would hold that particular card aside, to prevent someone
from saying, "Oh, Cauldron of Blood! Lemme change cards here..."
as that sometimes happened. Then during resolve strike, both Meth.'s
turned their cards up at the same time. So, as we chose our respective
strikes, nothing is given away before the resolve strike phase.
This method seems to work rather well.
If we play that way, according to the CE ruling (or, non-
ruling) if a vampire uses a Strike:CE, he announces it
*before* the Resolve Strike phase, or does the opposing minion
get to waste a strike card? Doesn't make sense (the latter).
It'd be either no one there to try to hit, or unable to try
to hit him/her (it?) (FoM and Maj.)
This is getting ridiculous.
Thank you for your responses, past, present, and future.

That kind of reaction is intended - it gives the blocker an advantage.
You announce the strike completely: target and all:
I strike with hands.
I strike to steal your Flame Thrower with First Strike.
I hit your Wolf Companion with 3R from my Shotgun.
I dodge.
I strike to end combat.

It's more akin to Cosmic Encounter, and quite workable, yes.
But the advantage should go to the blocker. (Which it does not
in the DT#R version of S:CE).

Thank *you*.
