Dear all, Today I have played a blood borthers' deck, with the following questions encountered: 1) Could I use Jerry's special ability to transfer blood to my brothers in the uncontrolled region? 2) One of my brothers has no blood at the beginning of my minion phase, could I take unwholesome bond as an action instead of hunting? Jerry Clan: Blood Brothers Capacity: 5 Sabbat Group: 2 Ability: Chicago Circle : During your master phase, you may move any amount of blood from the Blood Brothers in the Chicago Circle to any other Blood Brothers in this circle. Sterile. Set(s): *Bloodlines Disciplines : Inferior Celerity Inferior Fortitude Inferior Potence Superior Sanguinus Unwholesome bond Card Text: +1 stealth action san: This vampire gains X+1 blood, where X is the number of ready, untapped Blood Brothers of the same circle as the acting vampire. SAN: Add 1 blood from the blood bank to each Blood Brother in your uncontrolled region of the same circle as the acting vampire Thanks for your help. Best wishes, Marco Wong

No. You cannot affect vampires in the uncontrolled region without explicit card text allowing it. Jerry's ability does not explicity mention vampires in the uncontrolled region so the cannot affect them. Rulebook section 1.6.1.5 definition of Targets. "Vampires in the torpor region are eligible targets by default, but vampires in the uncontrolled region and contested cards are not." > 2) One of my brothers has no blood at the beginning of my minion phase, >could I take unwholesome bond as an action instead of hunting? No. http://www.white-wolf.com/vtes/rulebook/ See the online rulebook for this quote from section 6. "For example, a ready vampire with no blood must hunt." See also 6.1.2 definition of Hunt action. "Note that a ready vampire with no blood must hunt (and cannot take any action except the hunt action)." There are no other actions that ready vampire can take as long as it has 0 blood. The only exception is if you have played a card with that vampire this turn that prohibits it from hunting (or hunting again) like Change of Target on a previous hunt attempt. It still cannot take any other actions, but it can stay untapped. Carpe noctem. Lasombra http://www.TheLasombra.com

I was about to say no, but I'm not sure now, since it lacks the word ready or "in your controlled region". So, my guess from that card text is yes, although I'm quite sure, you're not supposed to. I can't find any rule that backs that up. I'm sure someone else can. > 2) One of my brothers has no blood at the beginning of my minion phase, > could I take unwholesome bond as an action instead of hunting? You must hunt. If, at any time, one of your vampires is untapped, ready and has no blood, he's forced to hunt before you take any other actions. Similarly you can't use fifth tradition to add 4 blood to an empty vampire before it has to hunt. Hunting actions are always handled before any other actions. I personally believe cards like unwholesomebond and restoration should say something to the extent of: "hunt, if succesfull gain 2 extra blood from the blood bank." I'm sure there's a good reason why the cards say differently.

If it subsequently gains a blood (eg 5th Tradition) can it then act or did it's failure to hunt when it had to paralyse it for that turn? (my guess is that it can act but I'm not sure)

In response to (1), Id gather that the answer is no, as you can't do things to uncontrolled vampires unless the effect in question specifically says you can do it to unconrolled vampires. > > 2) One of my brothers has no blood at the beginning of my minion phase, > could I take unwholesome bond as an action instead of hunting? Also no, as a vampire with no blood can only hunt. Kind of a flaw with Restoration or Unwholsome, but what are you gonna do? -Peter

[ quoted text not captured ] After receiving blood from any source, if it is untapped, it may then act, and take any action allowed by cards in play or cards in hand. [ quoted text not captured ]

Becoming stuck is not an event; being stuck is a state. Remove the condition for that state and you are no longer in that state. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc.
