you seem to be confusing White Wolf's new card game, 'Rage,' which is
about the garou (werewolves), with two other, distinct, events: Wizards
of the Coast's renaming (due, among other things, to copyright/royalty
disputes with White Wolf) of Jyhad to Vampire: the Eternal Struggle and
the planned V:tES expansion(s), at least one of which is based on
western european vampires. 'Rage' and Vampire: the Eternal Struggle (nee
Jyhad) are entirely distinct games, as likely to be compatible as Magic
and Jyhad (yeah, Sammy throws a car at your Serra Angel). The expansion
and the renaming (which has been discussed at nauseam previously) are
scheduled for early summerish.

Rage is from WW; Vampire from Wizards. Speculation is that WW pulled the
right to use "Jyhad", but that is speculation.

The press releases about Vampire: the Eternal Struggle came
directly from Wizards of the Coast, Inc. The name change has been
mentioned by Matthew Burke, Jyhad project coordinator, Kathy Ice, WotC
Network Liaison, and Tom Wylie, WotC Representative to the
rec.games.trading-cards.* groups.
They have all said that V:tES will continue to be published by
Wizards, and that the name change is due to aesthetic reasons. As far
as I know, there is no real conflict between Wizards of the Coast and
White Wolf Game Studio.
If you want to know more about V:tES, I suggest you check your
local retailer, e-mail cust...@wizards.com, or ques...@wizards.com.

Vampire: the Eternal Struggle is essentially a revised Jyhad, and will
continue to be produced by Wizards of the Coast. Rage is White Wolf's
trading card game, based on Werewolf.

What you tell us you have read conflicts violently with the public press
release of WotC that was posted on this group and on the jyhad-l mailing
list about 6 weeks ago. In it, it originally stated that:
- Jyhad would be changing its name to Vampire: The Eternal Struggle
- All the card backs on both the Crypt and Library cards would be changed
to say 'Vampire' instead of Jyhad.
There was much hue and cry by many people, and confusion reigned for some
time as different people at WotC tried to get their story straight about
what may or may not get changed. They eventually came back with another
statement, which is the last word we have heard form them, which said
that only the backs of the vampire cards would be changed to say
'Vampire:TES' on them due to the great outcry form the public.
This was not an acceptable compromise to many, and more grubmling was
heard, but it eventually died down.
As Far As Anyone Knows: WotC still owns Jyhad/Vampire; there are rumors
that part of the reason they were changing the name was because White
Wolf asked them to, but those were just that - rumors, never substantiated.
Hopefully this clears things up for you.

It is my understanding that White Wolf did consider revoking the agreement
from WotC over Jyhad, but at the last minute, WotC decided to keep ahold
of Jyhad and reissue as V:tES. The two companies are still of excellent
terms. Most WotC employees enjoy playing White Wolf games, while on any
given evening, White Wolf employees may be prone to play Magic. It's an
unusual relationship as I understand it. In addition to cosmetic changes,
I have heard that V:tES will include some rule changes to speed up the
game and deal with the
"sitting-on-my-butt-doing-nothing-in-a12-player-game" issue. Nobody seems
to know exactly what the changes might be.
Rage is White Wolf's new werewolf CCG. It has great art, a rule system
that deals with the "sitting-on-your-butt" problems in an unusual way and
a lot of other pluses.

Peace MC,
First, who has TWELVE people who can get together to play Jyhad (must be nice)?
Second, I have found that once the players are familiar with the rules and
cards that game play procedes much faster. Never played any games over eight
players myself (waah!).

Someone posted to r.g.t-c.misc that Rage had a problem, ITO, of having
unbalancing combos (like Magic). I'm not too enthused, personally.

Don't get me wrong....
I love Jyhad. We don't play Magic at our house, we only play Jyhad,
usually once a week with at least 4-6 people. I have played in some larger
games and they are painfully slow, but certainly after players get more
familiar with the rules it goes faster. Problem with us is...everybody
keeps wanting to learn how to play so every game has a newbie in it who
understandably wants to read each and every card and ask a lot of
questions.
Rage is a well designed games, but yes, some of the card combos are scary.
There are defintely some "screw" decks you can build right off the bat. I
think I'll like playing Rage with friends, competitively is another issue.
Still I like the game and the artwork. It's a good start!

If you think about it carefully, you'd probably realize that sitting on your
butt and doing nothing is likely to be your pastime on most other CCGs
involving 12 players :)
