Temporis#
Just a quick query about the interaction of two cards that I can't
find a specific resolution to.
If an Escaped Mental Patient uses its special text to strike with
aggravated damage during combat can it be saved from burning by
Heaven's Gate?
My problems arise from (a) the interaction between 'burn him at the
end of combat if he does so' (EMP text) and 'when an ally is burned in
combat' (HG text) - is the end of combat still in combat? - and (b) if
the EMP strikes in combat with aggravated damage from its card text
but is burned 'in combat' by damage from the opposing minion how does
Heaven's Gate interact with this? Does the HG save the EMP, as it is
would be burned in combat, and then does the EMP move to the
uncontrolled region? How does burn at the end of combat interact with
this effect? Is the EMP saved by HG only to burn due its own card
text (this seems plausible)? But does this occur irrespective of
whether the EMP is burned 'in combat' by an opposing minion?
Thanks in advance, I've been playing this game since the very
beginning, but I seem to be having critical rules interpretation
failure on this one.
Temporis
Escaped Mental Patient
Type: Ally
Requires: Malkavian antitribu
Cost: 2 pool
Mortal with 1 life. 1 strength, 0 bleed.
Escaped Mental Patient can enter combat with any minion controlled by
another Methuselah as a (D) action. The Patient can make a hand strike
at +1 damage, aggravated. Burn him at the end of combat if he does so.
Heaven's Gate
Type: Combat
Requires: Obeah/Necromancy
Cost: 1 blood
Only usable by a ready untapped vampire not involved in combat.
[nec] Prevent 1 damage to an ally in combat.
[obe] Only usable when an ally is burned in combat. Move that ally to
his or her controller's uncontrolled region (controlled, but not
ready) instead. Put 1 life on the ally from the blood bank if he or
she has no life.
[OBE] As [obe] above, but add up to 2 life to the ally, not to exceed
his or her starting amount.
