Rules Questions on Lambach Advanced and Path of Death and the Soul

Is pulling the Eye of Hazimel from my deck as per Advanced Lambach's ability part of attempting the action, or a consequence of succeeding at the action? That is, do I get the eye from my deck and throw it in the ash heap if I'm blocked? Also, with path of death and the soul, can I tap it to search for a skill card, fail to find one, and still get a blood for one of my vamps? Thanks muchly, Mark
