[LSJ] Enslaving a Statue

a Tremere is acting and is blocked. the player decides to activate the Slave ability, untaps the Tremere and taps a Slave Gargoyle to have the Gargoyle enter combat instead. can the Gargoyle then play Conscripted Statue at superior to have the blocker fight the Statue? card text on Conscripted Statue doesn't prohibit it but i'm not sure the Gargoyle has a timing window to play it.
