Canceled Strikes

A quick question on effects that cancel strikes (in particular, with strike obligations due to manuevers). First, a given: it has been discussed that using the manuever on a gun obligates that minion to use that gun as his/her first strike that round. Even if the weapon is destroyed/stolen with first strike, that minion gets no additional strike (i.e. does not get to choose a new one -- does nothing). Now, to the question. Let's say that one uses Aid From Bats for the manuever. The opposing minion is Watenda and because he likes the manuever, does not "cancel the combat card" until after range is determined. Now the "effect of the combat card" is cancelled, what's up with the manuever? And how does the "choosing a new strike" work? Similarly is the case with Primal Instincts. Can you cancel a strike you used for manuevers and then choose a new one? One major difference b/w this and the "given" given earlier, is that these cards specifically say that a new strike can be chosen. If this is possible, Primal Instincts would be more powerful than before. It could also be used as a free manuever in several cases -- use the Deer Rifle's two manuevers, cancel the strike and hit with an RPG Launcher. Halcyan 2

Then he loses the chance to cancel the effects of the card. The rest of your point is then moot. -- James Coupe (Prince of Mercia, England) Vampire: Elder Kindred Network http://madnessnetwork.hexagon.net http://www.obeah.demon.co.uk

Correct. Watenda cancels the effect of the card when it is played, or not at all. (Like Sudden Reversal). -- LSJ (vte...@wizards.com) VTES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast. I don't believe you can cancel a strike which you are committed to making (e.g. guns after you've maneuvered), though I cannot find a line to such effect in the rulings etc. *IF* this is correct, playing Primal Instincts on a thrown gate would work as follows: If only played during strike resolution for the strike, it cancels without problems. If played during choose range for the maneuver, you couldn't play Primal Instincts on it. [ quoted text not captured ]

It works in a manner similar to playing Immortal Grapple after someone maneuvered with a (non-hand) strike (and the other player maneuvers back to close). The strike (required by the maneuver but denied under IG) is simply lost. [ quoted text not captured ]
