Two more questions - about weapons and strength

Here are a couple more rule questions. Some weapons say that they do a certain amount of damage "each strike", but are only usable "once per combat." Does this mean that they can only be used during a single _round_ of combat, but can be used with multiple strikes within that round? Or just for a single strike? Second question: Torn Signpost says that This vampire has strength 2(3) for the remainder of combat. Is this modifiable? "Has strength X for the remainder of combat" is a wording that seems to me that, no matter what other cards are in play, or played afterwards, that should modify his strength, his strength will be considered that number. What if a Vampire's Strength is already above 3 when the card is played? Does the card _reduce_ his strength? Should one just avoid playing this card in those cases? Thanks again.

It is modifiable. It sets the vampire's base strength to 2 (or 3). A vampire's base strength is, by default, 1 [6.4.5] Just as that base of 1 is modifiable, the new base of 2 (or 3) is modifyiable. > What if a Vampire's Strength is already above 3 when the > card is played? If his base strength was 3 (for instance, he had played a TS at superior), then playing a TS at inferior would reduce his base strength to 2, yes. If his modified strength was 3 (a base of 1 plus bonuses), then the base would change and the bonuses would be applied to the new base. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) VTES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. Possibly redundant. > If you can only use it for one strike, why say > 'each'? To indicate that the damage is done via a strike (as opposed to some other, non-strike, effect). [ quoted text not captured ] Well, if you read it that way. All weapons pretty much say "x damage each strike," so it's best to keep using the standard weapon "template." It does sound silly with "useable once each combat," but it's clear the weapon does, say, 3 damage each strike, but only once a combat, not the vampire doing 3 each strike for having it, and makes it clear that only ONE Ghoul retainer can use it each combat, etc. -- Pat Ricochet Soul Jar'rn Fool of Atlanta
