Howdy, What happens if two players both want to play Rotschreck at the same time? Situation: Player A uses the Madness Network to bleed Player B during Player C's turn. Combat ensues, and both acting and reacting vampires attempt to strike with aggravated damage. Both players then try to play Rotschreck on the others' vampire. 1.6.1 makes it clear that Player A gets the first opportunity, as hers is the acting minion, correct? But does the play of the first Rotschreck prevent the play of the second? Rötschreck [Jyhad:U, CE:U, Anarchs:PG, BH:PTr2] Cardtype: Master Master: out-of-turn. <Frenzy.> Put this card on a vampire when an opposing minion attempts to inflict aggravated damage on him or her, whether the damage would be successfully inflicted or not. Combat ends. This vampire is tapped and sent to torpor. This vampire does not untap as normal. During this vampire's next untap phase, burn this card. It is not a Combat card, and the conditions for play are still present. Additionally there is no 'opposing minion is not going to torpor' clause. Do both vampires take a nap? Are the 'no untap' clauses still in force? I really don't know. Thanks, Alex

Alex Broadhead expounded: [ quoted text not captured ] The acting minion gets first opportunity. The conditions are no longer present after the first Rotschreck "COMBAT ENDS" -the opposing minion is now in torpor and no longer attempting toinflict agg damage. Compare to S:CE where the other player can also play S;CE because the effect (CE) doesn't occur until strikes resolve after the declaration phase -at which point both strikes resolve simultaneously.

Why does rot say 'play when a minion attempts to use aggravated damage' then? Why wouldn't the card be playable when the strike is played? Or does that clause imply that it is played only during the damage resolution phase, and thus like strikes are (acting minion first)? G

Because it's meant takes effect before strikes are resolved (you can't S:CE to beat Rotschreck, eg) > Why wouldn't the card be playable when the > strike is played? Because your opponent still gets the oppurtunity to play a strike card, even if that strike will not resolve. > Or does that clause imply that it is played only > during the damage resolution phase, and thus like strikes are (acting > minion first)? Moot, but: All card sequences are acting Methuselah first, blocking or defending Methuselah second, and then clockwise from the acting Methuselah. --Colin McGuigan

Rotschreck doesn't make the assumption that the attempt will always come in the form of a strike card being played. If the attempt comes in strike announcement (in the "choose strike" phase), then that is when Rotschreck would be played. [ quoted text not captured ]
