Cards that i'm too stupid to use

Some recent threads have reminded me of an important principle of my deck-design which rather shocked Nikki Sehmi when i explained it to him at UK Gencon. i refer to the non-inclusion of cards which i am too stupid to use. Foremost amongst these are Temptation, because i ALWAYS forget to put the counters on when it is time to do so; and Direct Intervention which kills me about as often as it saves me. My Master Phase Bleed for 7 [on yourself] use of Millicent Smith has passed into UK legend, but Form of Mist i think i just about understand still. Mind Rape has always been too clever for me, and embarassingly so is Renegade Garou [forgot to use his manouever in Uk Gencon]. Is anybody else prepared to admit to being too DUMB to play with any particular card? Maybe we could form a Vampire: The Eternal Simpleton society and swap tips about those excruciatingly embarassing Doh! moments when you realise that there are no independent vampires in your Free States rant deck, or that Talbot's Chainsaw isn't a melee weapon and can hurt the Werewolf Pack just fine.

>===== Original Message From legb...@my-deja.com (legbiter) ===== [ quoted text not captured ] Hi James. Hey I am not alone! I have included Parity Shift or Protect Thine Own in Sabbat Vote decks. I almost never play the pool gaining Powerbases as I simply forget about them. I recently played a Ex Nihilo Rush deck and didn't read the card right. And I know that Millicent feeling all too well. Happens to us all, I guess. But the better part is the aftergame whipping ! Mea Culpa, Mea Maxima Culpa !! ;-) About that Mind Rape : do you still find it interesting after the Sabbat War modifications ? Though watered down a bit, Mind rape still is a very scary card especially with cards like blood of the sabbat etc. You just need to build the deck and *make* it work. [ quoted text not captured ]

I successfully attempted to play Direct Intervention on my own turn THREE separate times in one round of a tournament. Brain damage... nothing more than brain damage. I shall make excuses and say that I had no sleep the night before and had just got up and driven a long way. Which was true. But. =) How about those moments when you draw up a card from your deck, look at it, and say out loud "why the hell is this card in here?" ...And you KNOW it hasn't just slipped in from another deck. -- Derek AGITATOR, n. I didn't know wich one to play, so I let some random method decide. At the first table, it turns out the dice had chosen the Ventrue Crypt and the Brujah library. Luckily, the other players at the table didn't mind me switching. Jeroen

I fairly regularly forget about the maneuvers on Bum's Rush but my stupidity usually involves forgetting to play cards (usually masters). [ quoted text not captured ]

I think one of the more classic Doh! moments is when you have a Parity shift and some Governs or Legal Manips in your hand and you forget to play the Parity shift first cause you're so excited to bleed your prey for 3 twice! :-) And you get that look from your prey that says "You have 9 pool, I now have 5 pool, do the math asshole." Brujah should stop playing with Volker. A scene i saw last week : Masika (full) try to equip with a Sniper Rifle. Okay, 2nd tradition by Volker (the only prince on the brujah side). I block you. Before range, Torn signpost. No maneuver. Immortal Grapple. Pushing the limit. Blur. Pushing the limit. Pushing the limit. Taste of vitae. Now acting meth looks at his torpored Masika, discards a card and let Volker Meth play. I jump on and say. "Okay ! what happened there ?" Everybody answers "volker intercept masika's sniper rifle equip action and send him to torpor". " no my friend you should'nt have blocked him !" "why ? you want my predator controlling Sniping Masika ? " "read the text on volker !!" "what text ? yeah so waht ?" "now read the text on Masika". reyda

Yeah, some of those specials occur so rarely that you forget about them! Uh...what happens if that event happens in a tournament? Is there any recourse to illegal scenarios? And whose fault is it? it was me and mochud :;) the worst is that it was masika who sent Volker in torpor !! you know, that was during the game after the turnament, when everybody is tired :;) how to do well in a tournament ? Sleep 12 hours long the night before! [ quoted text not captured ]

Amen. Too stupid to use? (and doubt i'm alone on this one) what a great special tiberius has... when you actually remember to use it. Hunting grounds happen when? collect for the edge? Sorry, i was just so excited that it's finally my turn... -sporeboy

Have done a similar thing myself although in my case I minion tapped, then called a Parity Shift before realising that no-one had more pool than me. Think this is generally symptomatic of a fault in my play. I tend to do one thing before thinking how its going to effect what elese I'm planning to do on my turn. I really need to remind myself to stop and think before actually doing things (see my previous comment about forgetting to play master cards). [ quoted text not captured ]

Think the Bum's Rush thing is more a case of me putting cards in to do one thing (e.g. Bum's Rush to get me into combat) and forgetting that cards also have other things on them (e.g. Bum's Rush has a maneuver). I really ought to actually read cards before I play them. I'm fortunately not the only one afflicted by this. I remember pointing out to Barney on one occasion that Legacy of Power puts BOTH Vampires into torpor. Not that he didn't still go on to win the game [ quoted text not captured ]

2 other examples... i don't remember when they happened though. "okay, now for the big combo ! Monçada attempts an eternal vigilance !! Any blocker ?" "hell, no" "Okay, i spend one blood... Now Monçada can attempt to untap and block everything ! be prepared !! "....sure..." - "Okay, because my Thetmes played IG, you can now only play hand strikes. My strike is Khabar the honor, for 4 damage." "it's a hand strike ?" "sure !!". Okay so i take 4 damage ? " "of course they are aggravated" "what ?? but why ? " "because it's written on Thetmes' text." reyda

Thetmes can play IG followed by K:H, and the damage done (by the K:H hand strike) is aggravated. [ quoted text not captured ]

Yes. I was just pointing out the fact that some people don't read the text on the vampires. [ quoted text not captured ]

<snip> > > Yes. I was just pointing out the fact that some people don't read the text > on the vampires. > Hehehe ... i got my first VP in the sealed-deck at paris in part because the Full Significance of Parmenides' disadvantage had not been appreciated, not to say read, by his owner. And it happened again in round 3, when i tapped marciana so that my Setite grand-prey could use Gastarbeiter Parmenides to intercept Constantin's attempt to equip a Starshell Grenade launcher. But i take some pride in being possibly the very first idiot to not read Parmenides properly, since in the UK pre-release i influenced him out when my predator had the Khobar Towers: Al Khubar in play. Here, Mr Predator! Have 4 fine, fat pool on me! Effectively an influence-phase bleed of 8 on myself, when you think about it.

Nice move ! That would have been nasty : Constantin + guard dogs / fata thing that grants a maneuver = Torpor guaranteed for any vampire in a sealed deck where dodge and prevetn is scarce (even amongst Ravnos and Assamites) > But i take some pride in being possibly > the very first idiot to not read Parmenides properly, since in the UK > pre-release i influenced him out when my predator had the Khobar > Towers: Al Khubar in play. Here, Mr Predator! Have 4 fine, fat pool on > me! Effectively an influence-phase bleed of 8 on myself, when you > think about it. Yes, that hurts. Another cool thing that happened : Parmenides was influenced out to a Ventrue predator who sold it on auction (hostile takover). The Assamite was stuck enough to buy him for 4 more pool ! Keeping Parmenides for an 8 pool total and giving in the process 4 pool to his predator... And guess who was this assamite : Arnaud Clavel again =) reyda
