When you play Taste of Vitae, does it count only the blood lost during the current strike resolution phase? Or does it count blood lost for the entire round (or the portion of the round after a previous Taste, if played)? I used to think it would only count for the current strike resolution, but I read something last week that made me wonder... a0 -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own

Card Title: Taste of Vitae Card Text: Only usable after strike resolution. This vampire gains an amount of blood equal to the amount lost by the opposing vampire during this round of combat. Not usable by a vampire going into torpor. The entire round. For example, if Basilia (5/10) and Javier Montoya (0/10) go to combat. Basilia plays Drawing Out the Beast and Javier plays Theft of Vitae. Javier would gain 2 blood from the Theft and then would lose 1 each from Basilia's punch and DotB. So...if Basilia played Taste of Vitae, she would gain 2 blood to fill back to the 5 blood she started the combat with. Correct, LSJ? Or will the damage from DotB happen after the opportunity to play Taste of Vitae has passed? Noal McDonald Michigan Jyhad League -- DISCUSSION, n. So...if Basilia played Taste of Vitae, > she would gain 2 blood to fill back to the 5 blood she started the combat > with. Well, Basilia's hand damage is aggravated, so let's pretend Javier had previously played Seeds of Corruption on Basilia (cancelling her aggravated-damage-special). So Javier strikes: Theft (superior) and Basilia strikes: hands (for 1). Javier gains two blood and takes one damage while Basilia loses two blood. Javier: 2/10 Basilia: 3/10 Then Javier burns one blood to heal the damage. Javier: 1/10 Basilia: 3/10 Then, after strike resolution, Basilia plays Taste to gain the one Javier lost. Javier: 1/10 Basilia: 4/10 At the end of the round (after the opportunity to press, etc.), Javier takes one damage from DotB. Javier: 0/10 Basilia: 4/10 > Correct, LSJ? So...if Basilia played Taste of Vitae, >she would gain 2 blood to fill back to the 5 blood she started the combat >with. > IANALSJ. Uh, read the card text. No. Firstly, you can't play Taste after DotB does its damage (see LSJ). Secondly, Taste only count BLOOD lost, not total damage taken. Let's go back to the previous example, and say that Basilia does aggravated hand damage. Javier Thefts 2 blood, then takes 1 aggravated. Javier can't heal the aggravated, and so he goes to torpor with 2 blood. Notice that Javier at no time in the round lost any blood. So, Taste will net Basilia no blood in this case. As another example, let's say that we've got Navar MacLaren with 0/1 blood, and he's fighting Lazverinus with a Crimson Sentinel with 12 soul counters. Navar strikes for 1 damage, Lazzy is nice and only strikes for 15. Lazzy plays Taste. How much blood does Lazzy get before the excess drains off? None. Why? Navar never lost blood, despite taking 15 damage. John Baker
