hi guys, i don't know if this has been answered before, but if in combat someone uses destroy equipment with first strike and i respond with a dodge, is my equipment destroyed? thanks, jeff

dodge is a strike... so your weapon is gone due to the first strike. i hate that card (canine horde) , it such a pain to lose a weapon you spent alot to get out.

[ quoted text not captured ] You can only use weapons once?! Sorry, I'm new here ;) Please explain! :) --Tim

The rules team recently proclaimed that dodge negated first strikes as well as normal ones. In this in is now similar to "combat ends" strikes.

Don't forget a strike that is directed at a retainer. Apparently (Tom?), a strike: dodge won't save a ranged attack directed at a retainer of a vampire in combat. -ben -- "I've seen things you wouldn't believe. I'm not so sure about that... according to the book, a dodge "negates" the attackers strike, thus if you shoot your magnum and I "negate" your strike with a dodge, your strike is completely negated(whether it hurts a retainer, steals equip. or whatnot).

Check 12.3.1 under "Employ Retainer": "The only damage that can be dealt to them [retainers] is ranged damage (see Combat, p. 29), and any time ranged damage is dealt to a minion, the Methuselah controlling the minion dealing the ranged damage may choose to apply all of it to either the minion or to a retainer on the minion. This damage cannot be prevented by dodges or any other intervention." papillo the lawbreaker

The rules state, "... all of it to either the minion or to a retainer on the minion. This damage cannot be prevented by Dodge or any other intervention." Now, I just noticed that the rules (being the revised rules that came with Duelist #3) don't clarify as to whether the damage cannot be prevented only when dealt to the retainer, or if it means that ranged damage cannot be prevented by Dodge or any other intervention. I assume it means that the damage cannot be prevented only when applied to the retainer. Vincent, Elder of Minneapolis

In this in is now similar to "combat ends" strikes. I simply don't understand this ruling. It would seem to me that first strike means that the strike is dealt and resolved *before* the opponent's strike. That being the case, strike:dodge would be somewhat pointless against first strike. If strike:dodge can be resolved at the same time as First Strike than why can't Strike:+1 hand damage? Please explain this apparently silly ruling? Nemesis
