How does Rutor's Hand work? Specifically, how does the damage prevention work? Can I use combat cards, what about Flak Jackets, are there any other means of preventing damage, etc..? Jason

In article <19980217040...@ladder02.news.aol.com>, [ quoted text not captured ] While you strongly object to an absence of punctuation (Article <19980217040...@ladder02.news.aol.com>), I see that you do not object to incorrect use of punctuation. Interesting position, that. Anyway, to answer your question: damage from inferior Rutor's hand cannot be prevented. Damage from superior Rutor's Hand has been errata'ed to be treated as if from a strike in combat, so any combat effects can be used to prevent or transmute this damage. Examples are: Flak Jacket, Skin of Rock, Skin of Steel, Skin of Night, and Merrill's special ability. -- L. Scott Johnson (vte...@wizards.com) Official VtES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast. [ quoted text not captured ] Since leather jacket is a combat effect, yes. [ quoted text not captured ]

I still believe that Rutor's hand is NOT a strike. The Errata (from you) tells me likewise. I found this in DejaNews: Subject: VTES Errata/Corrections From: LSJ <vte...@wizards.com> Date: 1998/02/04 Message-ID: <34D86B...@wizards.com> Article Segment 3 of 4 (Get Previous Segment) (Get All 4 Segments) (snipped all other) Rutor's Hand [DS] - Action (th) (1) * To prevent the damage from Rutor's Hand (superior version), treat it as if you are being struck in combat (i.e., use combat cards, Flak Jackets, etc.) [TOM 951208] So: Can RH be prevented by Leather Jacket? IMHO: No. Michael Beer

IMHO: No. Yes. Burning the Leather Jacket prevents all damage from a strike. RH's damage (superior) is being treated as if from a strike. [ quoted text not captured ]

IMHO: No. [scratches head] Um, to my reading this quote *supports* LSJ's ruling. "Treat damage as if being struck in combat." -- Rutor's Hand Ruling. "Prevent all damage from a strike." -- Leather Jacket. Could you clarify your position further? gomi -- kono sora wo daite kagayaku, shounen yo shinwa ni nare.

"Struck" is the past tense of "strike". Perhaps he just missed that part. I did too for a while. Lupus Australis ____ ____ \ \----/ / |()__()| __\ __ /__ / __\()/__ \ |/ \==/ \| | || |
