Last sunday 10 people got together to play in Day Op Milwaukee, because I'm not a prince (and unfortunatly not the winner... by one pool as the final timed out....) I've got a less than complete recollection of the event, so I'm going to share that in the hope of getting others to come forward. Oh, and I really suck with names, so here's hoping someone else can fill those in. General Impressions: there was a lot of combat for such a small field, and that really hampered the bleed decks that made up the rest of the tournement. Although a few decks included politics there were no real vote decks available. Diablere was a must. The final was: Chicago person playing Princes Intercept combat preyed on Kevin Mergen (madison) playing 2 cap sabbat embrace preyed on Me (madison) playing Lisette Visquel's POT/pro monsters preyed on BJ (madison) playing !Malk bleed, table rearrange preyed on Matt Heslin (milwaukee) playing AUS weenie stuff. The final was confusing, with BJ (the ultimate winner) switching places with Chicago (sorry can't recall your name) and stealing his VP in Kevin. I then ousted Chicago. The entire game was made more surreal by Matt's Malk Pranks. I think that he got 15 pool from the damned things, err.. great things. I got out Ebenezer Rouch on Prank pool, thus really messing with Kevin's horde. The game timed out just as BJ was setting up to try and oust me. VP's in Final: BJ: 1.5 Cameron: 1.5 Matt: .5 Finally, three people got taught the game during the final round, they'd just wandered in to the shop and got caught up. Thanks to the Prince of Milwaukee for hosting a great tournement, sorry I kept nuking all your minions, but Presence weenies are scary. also, if anyone knows names, dates, a full list of players/decks, here's what I have: Cameron (me): POT/pro Matt Strehlow: Gangrel FOR Bleed Kevin Mergen: 2-cap vic embraces from hell David Buerger: Assamite POT close range rush (very very very scarry) BJ: !Malk bleed and table rearrange Matt Heslin: AUS weenie intercept and bleed Out! In V:EKN tournaments, VP ties in the finals are broken by placement coming into the final, not by pool totals. [VEKN 3.8.4] -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. [VEKN 3.8.4] Perhaps he meant that he missed an oust on his last turn by 1 pool? Fred

Have some great pics of Cameron as Thor, god of thunder, though... [ quoted text not captured ] I prefer to call it "Why Lisette Visquel is a Bitch" > Matt Strehlow: Gangrel FOR Bleed > Kevin Mergen: 2-cap vic embraces from hell At one point this deck got out so many minions he went 3 deep in his play area. I'd have to double check my pictures, but I'm guessing around 15 minions. > David Buerger: Assamite POT close range rush (very very very scarry) Specifically it was Assamite first strike aggravated IG...Muwahaahhhahaaa! Thetmes is my hero! =) Still looking for a good close range Assamite deck, Todd? > BJ: !Malk bleed and table rearrange Conniving little $%^&. Weasled me out of a couple vps in the 3rd round. Well played, but it's the deck you love to hate. =) > Matt Heslin: AUS weenie intercept and bleed > Some additions: "Boris" - guy who played the princes beats deck Rick Buerger - my brother, went far with a weenie computer hacking deck we built for him in the minutes before GenCon. Played some sort of variation on the Ventrue law firm I think. > Out! > Cameron Well, I plan on posting a link to my pictures of the tournament as soon as I get the right cable for my digital camera. Hope Ed gets the real tournament report up soon... Aramis AKA, Cameron's roomate AKA, David Buerger

Boris's deck was a cool toolbox which was stunning when it operated at full capacity. He had a few cel/CEL Princes which powered the deck with weenies backing them up. Guns, Traditions, and swarm all worked well to cover a lot of bases. Nice deck. > Kevin Mergen (madison) playing 2 cap sabbat embrace preyed on Kevin's deck is sleaze cubed, and unfortunately everywhere he sat, the table ganged up on him. In the final he was prompted to make despairing and nigh-suicidal statements, which made us feel bad. We ousted his satanic deck anyway. > Me (madison) playing Lisette Visquel's POT/pro monsters preyed on Anyone else out there playing with POT/pro? I like the idea of 7 hand damage, aggravated, and you do it so well. </brownnose> > BJ (madison) playing !Malk bleed, table rearrange preyed on Brian J. Conant, the "young Turk" of the Madison playgroup, who made the coolest suggestion in the preliminaries: after choosing to ally with me over Boris and Dave, competition was fierce. Boris and Dave allied against us, and after my subsequent ousting, BJ calmly looks at his allied prey and predator and asks, "So, shall we all withdraw and gain a full VP?" > Matt Heslin (milwaukee) playing AUS weenie stuff. I wanna give a shout-out to my main home-burglar Ethan Burrow for the deck, which I shamelessly stole from this site: http://www.thelasombra.com/decks/twd.htm#tunowa It swept its first table, and paid for Ebeneezer Roush in the final. Malkavian Prank is broken, and needs errata. </troll> > Thanks to the Prince of Milwaukee for hosting a great tournement, > sorry I kept nuking all your minions, but Presence weenies are scary Ditto on the thanks, Ed -- and sorry if you got the table's scorn and bitterness. Both Princes (Ed and Kevin) brought weenies with scary threat capacity, and both got hammered for it. My condolences. Chris Barbaro, also of Milwaukee, played with a Malk/!Malk bleed deck. Chris is a recent returnee to the Great Game, and nabbed a victory point at his first tournament -- congrats to him. Good time had by all -- hope to see as many/more of y'all in Minneapolis this weekend and Madison on... November 18th, Kevin? --Matt Heslin ps: hope the party in Carolina was phat, y'all. : )

[ quoted text not captured ] Going into the final, you determine top five (the finalists) by: 1) VPs 2) If VPs are tied, use TPs 3) If still tied, use a random method (coing toss, die roll) to break the tie. This orders the five finalist. This order is used to determine seating the finals and to break VP ties in the finals. [ quoted text not captured ]

Well crap, maybe BJ didn't win, since I sat before he did. I'll check with the director of the tournemnt. Doesn't much matter for "real life" considerations, but It'll be fun to see the look on BJ's face. lol. In that spirit, I'll post the deck that may or may not have won the tournement later. Cameron

*steps out from the shadows* > Chicago person playing Princes Intercept combat preyed on Undoubtedly the biggest problem I faced all day, Boris stopped me cold in two separate games. A good amount of permacept combined with 2nd Traditions was more than I could handle... Perhaps if I'd packed a few more Elder Impersonations... Nice deck. > Me (madison) playing Lisette Visquel's POT/pro monsters preyed on A truly frightening combat deck; Lisette's on my list of Top Three Feared Vampires, along with Arika (when I'm not playing her *grin*), and newcomer Thetmes. > BJ (madison) playing !Malk bleed, table rearrange preyed on I'd actually just made the deck on a whim the previous weekend, as a break from my usual Big Eye and Inner Circle shenanigans. It proved too fun, though, and I decided to run with it for Day Op. > The final was confusing, with BJ (the ultimate winner) switching > places with Chicago (sorry can't recall your name) and stealing his VP > in Kevin. I then ousted Chicago. The entire game was made more > surreal by Matt's Malk Pranks. I think that he got 15 pool from the > damned things, err.. great things. I got out Ebenezer Rouch on Prank > pool, thus really messing with Kevin's horde. The final began very poorly for me. I lost pool to Heslin's Malkavian Pranks, while he table-talked his way into giving my predator 4 every time, and consistently earned more for himselfn (I was recalled of The Purloined Letter, or The Princess Bride's "battle of wits" -- Heslin is far too good with the Prank.) My three vampires were summarily beaten into torpor by Lisette and Co. I thought I would be facing an agonizingly slow bleed out by Cameron's combat deck, but, thankfully, he had to concentrate on slowing down Kevin's weenies. The turnaround for me was miraculously rescuing Korah and pulling off an edge-and-Private Audience backed Dramatic Upheaval to put myself behind Kevin. And while Kevin's deck is absolutely incredible, it often teeters around 10 pool, with zero intercept. In a much better table position, I was able to quickly oust Kevin, and stabilize my game. >The game timed out just > as BJ was setting up to try and oust me. I had the cards in hand and you know it, Cam. :-) My turn was just beginning with Cameron at nine pool. Four minions, two Kindred Spirits, two Eyes of Chaos, a Confusion, and Cameron unable to block me. Time was called just before my first bleed for four resolved. All in all, a very fun game. *makes a breach of netiquette, replying to sub-posts* >> Kevin Mergen (madison) playing 2 cap sabbat embrace preyed on > Kevin's deck is sleaze cubed, and unfortunately everywhere >he sat, the table ganged up on him. In the final he was prompted >to make despairing and nigh-suicidal statements, which made us >feel bad. We ousted his satanic deck anyway. An incredible deck, really. I still maintain that I never worked against Kevin, despite the VPs that I got from him. ;-) >Brian J. Conant, the "young Turk" of the Madison playgroup, One can only hope this term catches on, striking fear into the hearts of all of whom I prey upon ... either that or denoting the fact that I'm the youngest person in my playgroup. Hmmm. >who made the coolest suggestion in the preliminaries: after >choosing to ally with me over Boris and Dave, competition was >fierce. Boris and Dave allied against us, and after my subsequent >ousting, BJ calmly looks at his allied prey and predator and asks, >"So, shall we all withdraw and gain a full VP?" Hey, it was worth a try. ;-) I even managed to keep a straight face while asking! >Conniving little $%^&. Weasled me out of a couple vps in the 3rd >round. Well played, but it's the deck you love to hate. =) Thanks, Dave. ;-) Can't wait to see the pictures. Altogether, a lot of fun, especially for my first tournament! My thanks to the Prince of Milwaukee for organizing it. Le Cygne aka Brian J. Conant, The Young Turk *resumes lurking*
