Just to check if I'm following the contest rules:
My opponent plays Pentex Subversion on me.
In my turn, I pay 2 and play Pentex subversion on one of his vamps.
Both PS cards are inverted and immediately cease to have any affect (nor
can they be removed). I can then freely act with my once-subverted
minion. At the start of my opponent's turn, he pays one to continue the
contest. If he doesn't, the PS immediately comes into effect on him.
In either case, all blood lost for the contest comes from pool.
According to the rules, contested cards are considered out-of-play until
it is resolved and are placed face down. So what happens then if someone
else goes ahead and plays a third copy of a unique card? My take would be
that it is considered uncontested until one or the other cards come back
into play through one or the other resigning the first contest...and then
immediately becomes contested.
