A few questions came up in our playgroup: 1. Can a vamp play a Cat's Guidance for +1 Int. and afterwards play another Cat's Guidance to untap? (assuming the vamp is still ready after combat) 2. Along the same lines as the previous question: can a vamp play a Govern the Unaligned to bleed and later in the same turn play another GtU at superior? 3. Are Fleshcraft/Bonecraft strike effects cumulative? 4. A vamp gathers a certain amount of intercept (let's say +3) and blocks successfully. The acting vamp plays a Form of Mist and continues at +1 stealth. Can the blocking vamp use a Wake and keep the +3 intercept they originally acquired leaving them with needing just +1 intercept more to block again? Or was the +3 intercept lost and now the vamp has to gain +4 total intercept all over again to block? Thanks in advance. Alex

(assuming the vamp is still ready > after combat) No. No minion may play more than one of each named reaction card per action. From 1.6.3.5 Minion Cards, we get the definition of Reaction Cards: "5. Reaction cards: A ready untapped minion can play a reaction card in response to an action taken by another Methuselah's minion (an action taken by one of a Methuselah's minions cannot be reacted to by any of her own minions). A minion cannot play the same reaction card more than once during a single action. A reaction card does not tap the minion using it." See the online rulebook here: http://www.white-wolf.com/VTES/rulebook.html > 2. Along the same lines as the previous question: can a vamp play a > Govern the Unaligned to bleed and later in the same turn play another > GtU at superior? During a normal VTES game? Yes. During a VEKN tournament? No. A normal VTES game does not have the "No Repeat Actions" rule. Unless you are playing by tournament rules, you may take the same action as many times as your cards will allow you to. Check the tournament rules, in particular 6.4.1. No Repeat Actions here: http://www.white-wolf.com/VTES/veknRules.html for further clarification. Under the tournament rules, you may not take an action provided by a card more than once per turn, regardless of the results of the action. Therefore, in a VEKN tournament, you may not Govern at basic, untap, and Govern at superior, on the same turn. > 3. Are Fleshcraft/Bonecraft strike effects cumulative? Yes, all effects are cumulative unless card text or specific Errata states otherwise. > 4. A vamp gathers a certain amount of intercept (let's say +3) and > blocks successfully. The acting vamp plays a Form of Mist and > continues at +1 stealth. Can the blocking vamp use a Wake and keep > the +3 intercept they originally acquired leaving them with needing > just +1 intercept more to block again? Yes. See 6.2.2 of the online rulebook, quoted here: "Note that all modifications made to a minion's stealth or intercept remain in effect for the duration of the action. Increased stealth and intercept return to normal after the action is resolved." So until the action is unblocked, the reacting vampire's intercept will not change. He will have +3 intercept until he cannot block any more, or until the action is complete. > Or was the +3 intercept lost and now the vamp has to gain +4 total > intercept all over again to block? No. See above. Carpe Noctem. Lasombra http://members.tripod.com/~Lasombra Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

---Govern the unaligned it's not a repeat action: 6.4.1. No Repeat Actions A given minion may not repeat an action, by action type, in a single turn (whether the first action was successful or not). The defined "action types" are the ones defined in the rulebook: bleed, hunt, equip, employ retainer, recruit ally, political action, leave torpor, rescue a vampire from torpor, and diablerize a vampire in torpor. If an action card is used to perform one of these actions, that action is considered to be of that type. If it is not one of those actions (such as Bum's Rush), then it is a type of its own, by card name. If a card in play is used to perform one of these actions, that action is considered to be of that type. If it is not one of these actions (such as "enter combat via Haven Uncovered"), then it is a type of its own, by specific instance of the card in play. Example: A vampire who bleeds his controller's prey via Computer Hacking, then untaps via Freak Drive, cannot perform any bleeding action again, of any kind whatsoever, in that same turn. ----Govern the unaligned in inferior is a bleed type action and in superior an own card type action. Actually I have a different question. Does anyone know or understand why Heidleburg Castle is only usable by Vampires? Besides the obvious card text "Master: unique location. Tap to transfer equipment cards, move blood, and transfer retainers between any two ready vampires you control. (You may choose the amount of blood you move and which cards you transfer.") there doesn't seem to be justification for that aspect of the card. Besides the move blood part, but that could be covered by the Allies life vs blood rule. [ quoted text not captured ]

That's the only reason. There are a number of cards that do the same. For example, you can't use Elysium if it's an ally you control in combat, but you could use it if the opponent was using an ally against your vampire. If you want to know why it was written that way, you'd have to ask the designers. -- James Coupe | PGP Key 0x5D623D5D | ja...@zephyr.org.uk (New e-mail) "Who'd have ever predicted the moment would come when I find myself grateful they've kept women dumb?
