No. It doesn't count as belonging to the thief until after
/strike resolution/. You couldn't target it with a steal/destroy
equipment strike during the same batch of strikes, since you
must name a target for the strike which is a valid target at the time
the strike is announced.
If you gained an additional strike, you could destroy it later the
same round, or you could simply press and destroy it next round.
