Comments/Improvements will be appreciated :) Deck Name: Serpents Created By: Claus Staal Description: Utilizing the ability of "Summon the Serpent", being able to search for any vampire with serpentis, not just setites, I found some good use for both Synesios and Angra Mainyu, without having to include multiple copies of each in the crypt. This deck relies on speed and should keep up forward pressure at all times (as should any Setite deck) - even if this means sacrificing a few minions from time to time. My main problem with this deck really is pool gain ... I tried a few Tributes, but my vamps never seemed to have blood enough (and the last thing I want is for all of my vampires to hunt). I惴 not really sure about the Voter Caps., but find them nonetheless of quite good use for the odd deal done using Free States Rant, Voter Captivating and then blast away using the KRC愀 (with the cryptic Rider). I扉e actually almost never had serious problems getting my votes to pass, even with only 2 inherent votes at my disposal (Synesios) and due to this fact had Nehsi and Amisa removed from the crypt quite recently (replacing them with an additional 2 Aabbt Kindreds). As with most weenie decks it will loose power when reaching the midgame, but then again I don愒 really seem to be able to find a way around that anyway. As for bleed defence I removed everything from the deck ... previously the deck had 4 Banner of Neutrality, 4 Ecstasy and 4 Wakes, but I never really seemed to get use of them - so they were skipped all the same.... As with most weenie decks it will > loose power when reaching the midgame, but then again I don“t really > seem to be able to find a way around that anyway. > > As for bleed defence I removed everything from the deck ... previously > the deck had 4 Banner of Neutrality, 4 Ecstasy and 4 Wakes, but I never > really seemed to get use of them - so they were skipped all the same.... probably would do the same, you want to act-act-act, so unless you have tons of wakes, you can react, but that would take too much space... > > Crypt: (12 cards, Min: 9, Max: 26, Avg: 4,25) > --------------------------------------------- > 3 Aabbt Kindred for pre ser 4, Followers of Set > 1 Sir Marriot D'Urban aus obf PRE ser 5, Followers of Set > 1 Lalitha ser 2, Followers of Set > 1 Nepata obf pre ser 4, Followers of Set > 1 Synesios obf POT PRE ser TEM 8, True Brujah, 2 > votes > 1 High Priest Angra Mainyu DAI dem OBF PRE ser 8, Baali still don't see their use [ quoted text not captured ] only six?? Ok, you won't be caught when acting (except when Ravnos are your prey) but, any combat deck with a way to get into combat will eat through you, and even then, when bleeding you don't have that much stealth anyway... I would leave out the summonserpent-synesios-HighPriest thing...but then it just becomes another weenie-vote...and put in more combatdefense/blooddolls Wouter

I actually made my own version of a "Free Snakes Rant" deck last night. I'm sure it sucks, but I learned a bit from trying to piece it together. I have neither Synesious nor Angra, so I used Aziz, Bajazet and Melek (crappy, I'll probably put in Hesha instead) along with the Settite vampires who have votes. All vampires have Presence and Obfuscate. Most have Serpentis and the Assamites have Quietus. Also threw in one Sutekh for good measure (I like big vampires). > This deck relies on speed and > should keep up forward pressure at all times (as should any Setite deck) If you took out much of your bleeding, do you still have a lot of forward pressure? There are 8 KRCs and a few bleeds left, but that doesn't seem to be enough (for my taste at least). > - even if this means sacrificing a few minions from time to time. My > main problem with this deck really is pool gain More Enchant Kindred! More Voter Captivation! More Minion Taps! Bigger Vampires! > I惴 not really sure > about the Voter Caps., but find them nonetheless of quite good use for > the odd deal done using Free States Rant, Voter Captivating and then > blast away using the KRC愀 (with the cryptic Rider). I was wondering where your Charming Lobbies are. It's a built-in Cryptic Rider that doesn't cost blood, plus vampires with PRE get an inferior Oration for free. > I扉e actually > almost never had serious problems getting my votes to pass, even with > only 2 inherent votes at my disposal (Synesios) and due to this fact had > Nehsi and Amisa removed from the crypt quite recently (replacing them > with an additional 2 Aabbt Kindreds). Definite metagame consideration here. That'd never fly in my area except in the odd permutation of players. > As with most weenie decks it will > loose power when reaching the midgame, but then again I don愒 really > seem to be able to find a way around that anyway. Bigger vampires will help you in the midgame. I'm also unsure why you wanted Angra so badly in your crypt. She's nice and all, but her special doesn't make up for her Infernal-ness in this deck IMO. I won't argue with Synesios. > Crypt: (12 cards, Min: 9, Max: 26, Avg: 4,25) > --------------------------------------------- > 3 Aabbt Kindred for pre ser 4, Followers of Set > 1 Sir Marriot D'Urban aus obf PRE ser 5, Followers of Set > 1 Lalitha ser 2, Followers of Set > 1 Nepata obf pre ser 4, Followers of Set > 1 Synesios obf POT PRE ser TEM 8, True Brujah, 2 > votes > 1 High Priest Angra Mainyu DAI dem OBF PRE ser 8, Baali > 1 Khalil Anvari pre ser 3, Followers of Set > 1 Celine Chevalier obf ser 3, Followers of Set > 1 Julius qui ser 1, Caitiff > 1 Count Ormonde dom OBF pre ser 5, Followers of Set Other vampires to consider (even though you pulled Amisa, I'd reconsider): Hesha (obf pre SER, super hunter/blood gainer) Qufur (OBF PRE SER at 7 cap) Amisa (OBF pre SER, 2 votes) Kephamos (obf pre SER, 2 votes) I also like 2 Count Ormonde and 2 Sir Marriot in place of some weenies. If you add bigger vampires, you can probably cut back on the number of discipline masters. > Library: (90 cards) > ------------------- > Master (16 cards) > 2 Blood Doll > 2 Creepshow Casino > 1 Dreams of the Sphinx > 1 Fear of Mekhet > 1 Giant's Blood I wouldn't include this one unless you have a larger crypt. > 1 Khobar Towers, Al-Khubar > 1 Minion Tap > 2 Obfuscate > 1 Opium Den 2 of these definitely! > 2 Presence > 1 Tabriz Assembly > 1 Temple Hunting Ground > Action (18 cards) > 2 Clotho's Gift > 1 Derange > 4 Enchant Kindred > 2 Form of Corruption > 3 Social Charm > 6 Summon the Serpent Add a handful of Charming Lobbies. Synesios will appreciate it. Take out Cryptic Riders for them. If you go with larger vamps, replace Social Charm with Legal Manipulations, and definitely add more of the "gain 1 pool" Presence bleeds in any case. Don't forget Temptation! With all those FSRs, you're bound to get people in awkward situations. > Action Modifier (32 cards) > 7 Bewitching Oration > 6 Cloak the Gathering > 6 Cryptic Rider > 2 Domain of Evernight > 5 Forgotten Labyrinth > 6 Voter Captivation Superior Presence is key in vote decks so you can pull blood to your pool with Voter Caps. Your crypt was lacking in that regard aside from Synesios, Angra and Marriott. 5 vampires should be enough to get 1 into your initial 4, but Angra just rubs me the wrong way with this deck. You have very little combat defense so consider using Swallowed by the Night (especially if you put bigger OBF vamps in). > Political Action (18 cards) > 2 Banishment > 8 Free States Rant > 8 Kine Resources Contested > > Combat (6 cards) > 6 Majesty My deck went a bit further with the blood deprivation instead of working the Synesios angle. I have 4 Allies including 2x Amam the Devourer and 2x Ghouls of Plaza Moreria. I also put in one The Summoning to get them more reliably. My idea there is to keep them down with the Ghouls, FSRs, Foul Blood and Thrones Crumble(!), then have the Devourers send them to torpor. While the vampires are hunting and tapped via the Crumbles (lots of ppl play with titled vamps here and the little ones are easily set into a permanent hunt mode with 1 or 2 FSRs). Temptation is also great for this. Good luck with your deck! Jeff

Add some pook gain, another blood doll. Or perhaps a Barrens for cycling capability or a storage annex. > 1 Giant's Blood Why not a sudden reversal? I know you're low on blood a lot... but consider them, as synesios has that cute special. :) perhaps axe a skill card or two for them? > 1 Khobar Towers, Al-Khubar > 1 Minion Tap > 2 Obfuscate > 1 Opium Den > 2 Presence > 1 Tabriz Assembly > 1 Temple Hunting Ground > > Action (18 cards) > 2 Clotho's Gift > 1 Derange > 4 Enchant Kindred > 2 Form of Corruption > 3 Social Charm > 6 Summon the Serpent Costly in blood, that's where all of your vampires bloods are goin'. Its the focus of your deck, so I can't touch it, but is having one of those other vampires all that important to you, with only less than 5 special cards for those two special vampires (the baalie and trujah). > Action Modifier (32 cards) > 7 Bewitching Oration > 6 Cloak the Gathering > 6 Cryptic Rider > 2 Domain of Evernight You can always increase this (swap 2 cloaks for 2 more) as you don't need Synesios to cycle this card. > 5 Forgotten Labyrinth > 6 Voter Captivation > > Political Action (18 cards) > 2 Banishment > 8 Free States Rant And just what are you planning on doing with these FSR anyhow? Drain blood off others, make them hunt, drain blood and then steal? You've got 2 Form of Corruption... Your other strategy is to call the vote, pass it by setting it up for others and then Cryptic RIding a KRC... > 8 Kine Resources Contested Maybe swap 2 for conserv. agg. > Combat (6 cards) > 6 Majesty Hmmm... you're gonna' get ripped up by combat decks... Unless you FSR them or Banish them... then you're going (probably) not at your prey, slowing you down... I have a deck very similar to this and I hope to be play testing it and posting it soon. I use enticements and sargon instead. Clotho's gift for getting to good vampires, temptations to give sargon actions w/o paying the pool, 4 FoC for stealing with my few FSR and some conflagarations (because Danny Larkshill and Synesios can use them in the outferior too, if I wanted). Look for it at a later time. Good luck with blending Bloodlines with other clans (like we're supposedly supposed to do!). ~SV

Charming Lobby is CRAP unless you're SURE you can pull off that vote, THAT turn, else you're letting someone else (maybe even your predator) get a free vote off, and trust me, if there's any cross table political actions (like axing that anarch revolt or elsyium) people will take them! > > I扉e actually > > almost never had serious problems getting my votes to pass, even with > > only 2 inherent votes at my disposal (Synesios) and due to this fact had > > Nehsi and Amisa removed from the crypt quite recently (replacing them > > with an additional 2 Aabbt Kindreds). > > Definite metagame consideration here. That'd never fly in my area > except in the odd permutation of players. yeah, my metagame either has too many vote son the table or none... its quite frustrating. [ quoted text not captured ] I agreed with nothing until you mentioned legal manipulations... before then you're contradicting yourself. Charming Lobbies: Rquires Two actios this turn. One for the charming lobby, and another to call that next vote. Realistically though... Aabbt Kindred calls Charming Lobbied FSR or KRC: It gets voted down hard core, even with you allocating lots of points somewhere else other than at your prey. So what else do you need? The edge... So REALLY charming lobby needs 3 actions in a deck... 1 to bleed to get the egde, one to call teh FSR (edge is worth another vote, its your safest bet) and THEN another action to call the KRC or FSR #2. The larger the vampires you have the less likely you're to pull off these multiple actions because you have less vampires on the table... UNless you've got half of them tempted, and they're pulling off multiple actions themselves. :) Hence my thoughts are to stick with the Cryptice Riders, as people won't know to vote your referendum down instantly, like they would with CL and there's no quarentee of getting my vote after the CL, as it might get blocked and someone else gets my free CL referendum passed. > Don't forget Temptation! Temptation is also great for this. I've done similar things with Throne's Crumble... I believe i throne's crumbled my prey's Lucian, then form of corruption or temptation or something was placed into play the same turn. I had Lucian, then had him eat someone else. I called his own blood hunt and voted 4 to burn himself. It was comical. ~SV

Well, it started with me just looking for all the possible Independent vampires with Pre/Obf as disciplines so I could push through FSRs better, and use bigger vampires to get some Voter Captivations in. There are a handful of Assamites with Pre/Obf--Melek, Husamettin, Aziz, Bajazet and Aziz (who also has ser). So, I figured I'd add a couple of them into my crypt (2x Aziz, 2x Bajazet, 1x Melek who will probably become Hesha). Since that gave me 5 Assamites with QUI/OBF, I figured why not include a couple of Foul Bloods so when vampires are inevitably hunting, I can send a couple to torpor. Further, I added in 2x Ghouls of Plaza Moreria to assist in keeping the blood supply low. I also tossed in a couple of Scorpion's Touch for combat cards (with 5 Assamites, I can expect to get 1 reliably). > > > - even if this means sacrificing a few minions from time to time. My > > > main problem with this deck really is pool gain > > > > More Enchant Kindred! More Voter Captivation! More Minion Taps! Bigger > > Vampires! > > Enchant Kindred Sucks! Use Social Charms! :) Enchant Kindred Rocks! I am using bigger vampires with PRE so I would be quite happy to Enchant down a couple times early to get out that 3rd vampire (ideal pull for me would be Aziz, Amisa and Ormonde/Marriot. As for Social Charm, I would more likely put in Night Moves to make sure I get the Edge to help pass my FSRs. Perhaps Celine or Nepata could work for this. > > > I惴 not really sure > > > about the Voter Caps., but find them nonetheless of quite good use for > > > the odd deal done using Free States Rant, Voter Captivating and then > > > blast away using the KRC愀 (with the cryptic Rider). > > > > I was wondering where your Charming Lobbies are. Get a free vote off? Charming Lobby only affect YOUR next vote called this turn. No one else can play off it, even if you only take one vote action during your turn. Besides, I would gladly offer 1 or 2 FSR points to someone crosstable, especially my grand-predator in exchange for votes. Remember, my vampires are mainly 8-cap and above, and adding on a Presence discipline gives me 5 points of FSR to spread around. > > > I扉e actually > > > almost never had serious problems getting my votes to pass, even with > > > only 2 inherent votes at my disposal (Synesios) and due to this fact had > > > Nehsi and Amisa removed from the crypt quite recently (replacing them > > > with an additional 2 Aabbt Kindreds). > > > > Definite metagame consideration here. Usually around here people are much more concerned with Voter Captivations than the actual vote itself, unless it directly affects them. There's often a lot of posturing where the vote will only pass by one so VC isn't as useful as it might be. Still worth packing, but since people let votes pass (just not by a whole lot), I can expect some success with CLs. > > Add a handful of Charming Lobbies. Synesios will appreciate it. Negotiate! If one of your Allies has the Edge, make a deal with them. It's easy to get an FSR off if you do some wheeling and dealing with a Charming Lobby. Granted, there will be some suspicious people, but most people can be convinced it's in their best interests, especially if you tell your allies you don't want to sweep the table, just get 1 or 2 VPs (grand-predator = friend). > The larger the vampires you have the less likely you're to pull off > these multiple actions because you have less vampires on the table... > UNless you've got half of them tempted, and they're pulling off > multiple actions themselves. :) Every deck I make should be able to get 3 Vampires on the table, perhaps with some difficulty if they're larger. But if I play big vamps, there are always, ALWAYS some of Govern the Unaligned, Enchant Kindred, Fourth/Fifth Tradition and Minion Taps. So I'm not too worried about it. > Hence my thoughts are to stick with the Cryptic Riders, as people > won't know to vote your referendum down instantly, like they would > with CL and there's no guarantee of getting my vote after the CL, as > it might get blocked and someone else gets my free CL referendum > passed. I think you're misreading the card here. Only you get the CL freebie or it goes away at end of turn. But I do agree, a mixture of CL/CR can work wonderfully. Btw, I would only use a CL for a FSR in this deck unless it was patently clear the vote would pass without help. Never CL the Banishments or KRC oustings, those are for the follow-up vote. ;) > > Don't forget Temptation! > > Oh, yeah, like I mentioned above, sweet. > > > With all those FSRs, you're bound to get people in awkward situations. > > > > Superior Presence is key in vote decks so you can pull blood to your > > pool with Voter Caps. Yeah, I much prefer OBF to SER. The extra stealth to push through actions is more useful generally speaking. Much rather have 3 vamps with OBF and one with SER on the table than the other way around. > > My deck went a bit further with the blood deprivation instead of > > working the Synesios angle. I can't wait to try this out in practice. ;) Once my kids' softball season is over (tonight is last game), my Wednesdays will be freed up again to get to the local store more regularly for VTES night. Woohoo!

See the FAQ, section 3.27, here: http://www.thelasombra.com/vtes_faq.htm > No one else can play off it, even if you only take one vote > action during your turn. The next vote called passes automatically. Charming Lobby has no restrictions on whose minions can call that next vote. Carpe noctem. Lasombra http://www.TheLasombra.com [ quoted text not captured ]

That's what I get for playing with Jyhad backed cards.... ARGH. Stupid errata. In this case, I guess I'd have to see how things work with the CLs, though I still think they're a pretty good idea in theory. Jeff

[ quoted text not captured ] No errata (at least not on that point, at any rate). The text on the 1994 Jyhad-backed cards did not restrict the auto-pass to your own votes, nor to the current turn. 1994 Jyhad card text: Call a vote. If it passes, then the next vote passes automatically. Superior: As above, and gain two votes. The only "errata" has been a ruling on the above (which amounts to errata on the 1995 VTES-backed text) that the first vote can be any referendum you could normally call and is called as part of the resolution of the CL action. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc.
