A 2 capacity vampire I control is in combat. The opposing vampire plays superior Carrion Crows and strikes for 1 hand damage. Could I tap The Coven after my vampire takes the 1 damage from his opponent's strike and before taking the 2 damage from the Carrion Crows? -- Damnans http://www.almadrava.net/damnans http://www.vtes.net http://es.groups.yahoo.com/group/vteshispania/ http://iuturna.sorcery.net (IRC channel: #vtes)

Your vampires takes 3 damage in strike resolution. Barring any prevention, you then move on to the healing phase where your vampires need to burn 3 blood to heal damage. Since he can only burn 2 there will be unhealed damage left and your 2-cap guy goes to torpor. I don't think you can choose to burn 2 blood first, then tap coven and then burn the third blood to end up with 1 blood after healing all the damage.

[ quoted text not captured ] I don't think so, since the carrion crows damage happens during strike resolution, there's no window between resolving the hand strike and the carrion crows damage. As usual, I could be (and probably am) wrong.

Wow. I replied almost immediately you posted, but it took 12 hours to appear.

LSJ

[ quoted text not captured ] It appeared on USENET immediately. Gooogle Groups, however, has been slow to display any USENET posts lately.

LSJ

[ quoted text not captured ] If X damage is done, handled, and he's still ready, you are allowed to tap the Coven, sure.
