Okay, I've just read in the most recent FAQ:
Q: How do I replenish my pool? Can't I take blood off my ready vampires?
A: Currently the only time you can remove blood from a ready vampire and
place it in your pool is when it has a Blood Doll or a Minion Tap card
played on it. Otherwise the Methuselah cannot feed off of his or her
minions. There are cards tht allow pool increases, and ousting your prey
pays off as well.
Now, I thought that during the influence phase there were three
ways to use your four transfer counters.
1) one counter to transfer one pool to an uncontrolled vampire.
2) two counters to transfer one pool from a controlled vampire.
3) four to bring one from the crypt.
I have the feeling that I've misread somewhere. Since I don't
have a rulebook handy I can't check, but does it say about #2 above to
use two counters to transfer one pool from one _controlled_ or
_uncontrolled_ vampire? I (and everyone I play with) thought it was
controlled, and therefore possible (albeit tough) to build your pool up
by hunting and leeching.
Methinks I need to read more carefully...

I'm looking at both versions of the rulebook, and they both say
"uncontrolled" in option 2. Basically, your transfers can only ever
be used to muck about with your uncontrolled vampires, not the ones
you already have out.

I know the feeling, trust me ;) :-\

OK, here's a question:
Contested vampires are uncontrolled -- they go face down. Can
you use transfer points to move blood on and off of contested
vampires (since they're uncontrolled)?

Contested card only go face down to mark that they are contested.
They are out of play, not in your uncontrolled region, and as such
you cannot use transfers to move blood onto or off of them.
